“I Didn’t Expect It”: Siti Nurhaliza Reacts To Being Named As Southeast Asian Living Music Legend

With a career spanning over three decades and more than 300 awards to her name, Dato Sri Siti Nurhaliza has long been considered a musical powerhouse, not just in Malaysia but across the region. Her name is etched in the Malaysia Book of Records as the country's most awarded artist, and in 2024, she was officially honoured with the Biduanita Negara title. Internationally, she ranks 27th among the world's top 100 most awarded entertainers.

Now, that legacy has reached new heights. The singer has been officially recognised as a Southeast Asian Living Music Legend by global media agency SeaAsia Stats, placing her alongside the region's most iconic artists. The recognition celebrates her immense contribution to music, her consistency over the years, and her ability to remain relevant and impactful well into her fourth decade as a performer.

The "Seluruh Cinta" singer expressed her surprise and gratitude upon receiving the news, admitting that she never anticipated such an honour. "Alhamdulillah, I'm grateful and thankful for this latest recognition. Honestly, I didn't expect it. I've been so busy with my work and commitments, but when someone appreciates your efforts, it really means a lot," she shared during the Paddle For Hope event organised by the Nurjiwa Foundation in Kuala Lumpur.

She added that being called a "living legend" comes with immense responsibility. "It's a heavy title. But for me, whether I win awards or not, my focus remains the same. And that's to give my best in everything I do, whether it's creating an album, performing live, or putting on a concert."

Siti also took the opportunity to encourage other Malaysian artists to keep pushing forward, viewing her recognition as a shared motivation, "I'm still active in the industry, working, creating, competing. This honour isn't just for me. I hope it inspires others to continue producing great work. Everyone has the potential to succeed and contribute to our nation's music legacy."

Despite all her achievements, the singer remains grounded, saying her work has always been rooted in a deep love for music, "I do this because I love it. Music has been part of me from the beginning, it's in my blood. When fans appreciate what I do, I just want to give something back, something that makes them happy. The title won't be a burden. What matters is that I continue to produce high-quality music and performances."
