César Awards Debunk Bizarre Impersonator Claims After Jim Carrey’s Appearance

Last week, renowned comedian and actor Jim Carrey made a rare public appearance at the 51st César Awards to receive the Honorary César. Unfortunately, his appearance led to some bizarre online conspiracies.

On 26th February 2026 (Thursday), Jim Carrey attended the 51st César Awards ceremony in Paris to accept his lifetime achievement award. The César Awards previously announced that the actor would be the recipient of the accolade in October. However, after the actor went on stage to accept the award, the internet began buzzing about his appearance.

Many debated the actor's looks, noting that he looks different from how he did a few years back. Some netizens dismissed the issue, arguing that the 64-year-old may have undergone beauty procedures, given how common it is for celebrities in the industry. However, others began making some wild speculations.

One of the bizarre theories that swirled online was that an impersonator attended the event in place of Jim Carrey. Drag artist Alexis Stone, who is known for their celebrity impersonations, even claimed to be the one impersonating Jim Carrey. Alexis even shared some photos of what appeared to be a collection of prosthetics to back their claim.

After much conversation online, Jim Carrey's representative and the general delegate of the César Awards have come out to debunk the conspiracies. The actor's rep, Marleah Leslie, denounced the claims, writing definitively in a statement, "Jim Carrey attended the César Awards, where he accepted his Honorary César Award."

César Awards' Gregory Caulier also debunked the online theories, calling the rumours a "non-issue". He then spoke about the eight-month preparation that went into Jim Carrey's appearance and tribute. The award's general delegate also praised the star's dedication to learning his entire speech in French, even asking for the correct pronunciation of words.

Gregory also brushed off the recent controversy, saying, "I just remember his generosity, his kindness, his benevolence, his elegance." Let's hope these comments from Marleah and Gregory will put a stop to the online debate.
