Meet Brave! The First K9 Puppy To Be Born In Malaysia

Housing and Local Government (KPKT) Minister Nga Kor Ming has officially introduced the first K9 puppy to be born in Malaysia, the adorable and aptly-named, Brave.

Taking to his Facebook page, Nga shared how the puppy was brought into the world by mum, Lottie and dad, Miles, through the Fire and Rescue Department of Malaysia’s (JBPM’s) domestic breeding initiative.

“Brave is the first K9 puppy born in Malaysia, by the couple, Lottie and Miles, on 18 March 2026. This is the result of JBPM’s efforts under the supervision of KPKT, to implement a domestic breeding program,”

“Previously, the MADANI Government allocated RM2.4 million for the acquisition of 16 new detection dogs from the United Kingdom. Currently, JBPM only has 34 detection dogs but we still need 56 more to achieve optimal operational capacity,” he said.

He further explained that, as a long-term strategic step, KPKT through JBPM is planning to develop a K9 Operations Center in Bertam, Penang, and intensify the domestic breeding program to reduce costs.

Additionally, Malaysia is aiming to become the leading breeder of K9 detection dogs in the ASEAN region through the K9 Operations Center, a goal that can be achieved thanks to JBPM’s officers who are experts in training detection dogs.
