“Are They Gone Yet?”: Ice Cube & Nia Long To Reunite As “Are We There Yet?” Gets 3rd Film

If you grew up in the late 2000s, you’ve probably seen the comedy film “Are We There Yet?” or its sequel “Are We Done Yet?” at least once. Well, there’s great news for fans of the franchise because a third film is in the works!

Deadline recently reported that Ice Cube and Nia Long are reuniting for the third instalment in the “Are We There Yet?” franchise. The new movie is titled “Are They Gone Yet?” and follows Ice Cube’s former child-hating character Nick Persons as he faces his biggest challenge yet: grandchildren.

The movie is currently in the early development stages after being acquired by Skydance Sports, so there’s no news of when fans can expect the new movie. Chris Hazzard and Mike Fontana join the project as writers, with Ice Cube, Todd Garner and Jeff Kwatinetz. Executive producers are Ben Hurwitz and Lauren Gennaway.

“Are We There Yet?” was released in 2005 and follows Nick as he takes two siblings, played by Aleisha Allen and Philip Daniel Bolden, on a road trip after he starts dating their single mother, Suzanne, played by Nia Long. The 2007 sequel, “Are We Done Yet?”, picks up with Nick and Suzanne married and working to build their new home.

Both movies grossed more than $156 million (approximately RM646 million) worldwide and even prompted a sitcom adaptation. The spin-off series aired on TBS from 2010 to 2013 and starred Terry Crews and Essence Atkins. Up until the third film announcement, many generally thought the sitcom was the final instalment of the franchise.

Ice Cube has commented about the new movie, saying, “We built something special with this franchise. Audiences grew up with Nick Persons, and now Nick’s got grandkids. Time flies. Partnering with Skydance to bring this story to a new generation is exactly the kind of move CubeVision was built for, and I am excited for the new partnership.”

The rapper-turned-actor is also pushing for another “Friday” film, which would be the franchise’s last. Earlier this year, Ice Cube shared some good news about the project, confirming that a revival of the cult classic is in the works and would focus on the gentrification of South Central Los Angeles. Chris Tucker is also said to return to his role.

There isn’t much known about “Are They Gone Yet” or “Friday”, but the fans are already excited for both films.
