Many Hong Kong stars have expressed their fondness for Malaysia, and some are spending their retirement here. One of those stars is former TVB actor Dickson Lee Ka Sing (李家声), who has reportedly been living in Penang since 2019.
Recently, news outlets have reported on Dickson’s recent whereabouts after semi-retiring from the entertainment industry. The now-59-year-old was a familiar face in Hong Kong dramas in the 90s and 2000s, having played many minor roles in hit TVB series. However, it appears that the actor has exchanged his hectic showbiz lifestyle in Hong Kong for a more relaxing life in Penang.
According to reports, Dickson moved to Penang in 2019 after participating in the Malaysia My Second Home (MM2H) program. News outlets say he and his wife are currently living in a 1,100-square-foot sea-view unit in Batu Ferringhi. The actor reportedly bought the unit for HK$1.5 million (approximately RM780,000).
After moving to Penang, Dickson led a mostly private life and rarely appeared in public. However, photos of the star recently emerged on social media, giving netizens a glimpse into his current life. While the actor doesn’t appear to have aged significantly since his last appearance, he does give off a more mature image. He also seemed noticeably more relaxed.
As for why the Hong Kong star chose Penang for his retirement plan, he once shared in an interview that after an injury, he and his wife travelled to Penang for a simple trip. However, they unexpectedly fell in love with the local life and decided to settle here. Dickson noted that he was particularly drawn to the leisurely pace of life and lower cost of living compared to Hong Kong.
The actor also said that it was easier for him to integrate into local life because there wasn’t any communication barrier. He noted that many of the residents are fans of TVB dramas and can communicate with him in Cantonese. Overall, Dickson said he’s thoroughly enjoying his simple and peaceful retirement in Penang.
