Interview: PSYCHIC FEVER From EXILE TRIBE On Their New Album “DIFFERENT” & Embracing Their Roots

PSYCHIC FEVER from EXILE TRIBE shows no sign of slowing down. After touring multiple cities and performing for fans across the world, the seven-member group is continuing their goal for global reach with the release their second studio album “DIFFERENT”. The 10-track drop features the Rykeyz-produced single “I Got Ways” and the main single “If You’re Mine”, and is now available on all streaming platforms.

The boys are also no strangers to Malaysia, having performed at Zepp Kuala Lumpur back in 2024 for their “HEAT” tour. We recently spoke to the members (JIMMY, RYOGA, WEESA, KOKORO, RYUSHIN, REN and TSURUGI) ahead of the release of “DIFFERENT” to hear their thoughts about the new album, their plans for their upcoming anniversary and any teasers for a possible return to Malaysia. Keep on reading to hear what they have to say.

Q. It’s been a while since Hype Malaysia last spoke to PSYCHIC FEVER. Can you guys share what you’ve been up to in the last few months?

RYOGA: Over the past few months, we’ve been fully focused on creating our second full-length album, “DIFFERENT”. It’s our first full album in four years and features ten tracks, including brand-new songs. At the same time, we’ve been touring Japan with “THE ROOTS”, using every performance as an opportunity to grow as live performers while getting ready to share this new chapter of PSYCHIC FEVER with fans around the world.

Q. Let’s talk about your upcoming album, “DIFFERENT”. Can you share more about the concept behind this release?

JIMMY: Just like the title suggests, the main themes of the album are difference and growth. As we’ve performed around the world, we realized that our different musical backgrounds, personalities, and influences are what make PSYCHIC FEVER unique.

Through this album, we also hope listeners will feel encouraged to embrace who they are. We want people to know that it’s okay to be yourself and not compare yourself to anyone else. We hope “DIFFERENT” gives people the confidence to celebrate their individuality.

Q. Do you guys have a favourite track from the album? Can you share which track and why?

TSURUGI: My favorite is “Pink Lemonade.” It’s a romantic song that compares the feeling of falling for someone to getting intoxicated by a cocktail. It has a smooth, relaxed vibe that’s perfect for unwinding, and it’s one of those songs I can listen to anytime.

Q. The first single, “I GOT WAYS”, has a more mature sound than what we’ve heard from PSYCHIC FEVER previously. What was your first impression of the song?

WEESA: My first impression was that it had a much more mature and sensual sound than anything we’d done before. I was really excited to record it because I felt it perfectly matched how we’ve grown since our debut. It has a sophisticated R&B vibe that allows us to express a more mature side of PSYCHIC FEVER.

Q. You also recently released “PINK LEMONADE”. Can you share the concept behind this track and how it contributes to the overall concept of “DIFFERENT”?

RYOGA: “Pink Lemonade” has both a sweet, refreshing side and an exciting edge to it. Within the story of “DIFFERENT”, it’s an important song because it represents change and the excitement of experiencing new emotions. It adds another color to the album and shows a different side of who we are.

Q. Moving on to other milestones; You’re also celebrating your debut anniversary soon. Any plans on how you’re going to celebrate the occasion?

RYUSHIN: This year we’ll be celebrating our anniversary in Japan, and we’re planning to spend that special moment with our ForEVERs who have always supported us. For us, it’s not just a celebration—it’s also the beginning of a new chapter. We want it to be a day where we can express our gratitude to everyone who’s been with us on this journey.

Q. There’s been a lot of changes since your first year. What do you think has been the biggest change, as a group and as individuals, so far?

TSURUGI: The biggest change has been learning to truly embrace each member’s individuality and respect our different roots. We’ve grown beyond simply performing songs—we’re now able to express our identity through our music. I think that’s made us stronger both as individuals and as a group.

Q. You’re set to hold the finale performance for your “THE ROOTS” Japan tour in August. The tour has been a huge success and you’ve even shared your journey through a documentary. What do you think has been the biggest takeaway from the tour?

REN: One of the biggest things we learned is that every member has different challenges and goals, but a live show is something we build together by supporting one another. We don’t just go on stage and perform—we constantly ask ourselves how we can best communicate what PSYCHIC FEVER’s entertainment is all about.

We spend a lot of time discussing, experimenting, and refining every show. For the final performance, we want to give everything we’ve got, express everything we’ve learned throughout this tour, and make it the perfect first step toward what’s next for PSYCHIC FEVER.

Q. With us entering the second half of the year, do you guys already have any plans in store? Can you share what fans can look forward to?

JIMMY: We’re currently planning our world tour, so we hope everyone is looking forward to singing the songs from our new album with us. We’ll continue taking on new challenges as we work toward one of our biggest dreams—to reach No. 1 on the Billboard 200.

Q. It’s been a while since you’ve visited Malaysia. Are you guys planning to return soon?

RYUSHIN: We’re already working on plans to come back to Malaysia as soon as possible. We still remember the incredible energy from everyone during our “HEAT” tour, and it’s something we’ll never forget. We can’t wait to see all of you again very soon!

Q. Can you share a message for the Malaysian ForEVERs?

KOKORO: Thank you so much for always supporting us with so much love and warmth. We’ll continue working hard so we can come back to Malaysia for more live shows and events. We hope you’ll keep supporting us and look forward to everything we have coming next. We can’t wait to see you all again!
