Why Eggs Fit Perfectly In Your Family's Heart-Healthy Diet

Every parent knows that feeding your family can be a little overwhelming — or even downright stressful. You’re constantly planning ahead, gathering ingredients, and trying to meet your family’s nutrient needs with meals that actually taste good.

Thankfully, there’s one versatile refrigerator staple that delivers high-quality protein and other key nutrients to support body and brain health for the whole fam — eggs! With nutritional benefits for kids, parents, and grandparents alike, eggs are a great food to include in a heart-healthy diet. Here’s why.

Benefits Of Eggs For Kids

From the moment your baby begins solid foods, you quickly learn how important nutrition and a baby’s first foods are. Introducing a variety of healthy and safe solid foods helps set your child up for nutritional success. In fact, early introduction of eggs may help reduce the risk of developing an egg allergy, which is one of the reasons the Dietary Guidelines recommends eggs as a fundamental first food for babies.

Eggs are also a complete protein and have several other key vitamins and minerals recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics for little ones’ growing brains and bodies, including vitamin B-12 and iodine.

Try scrambling up some eggs as finger foods for your littlest ones or get creative in the kitchen for the toddler and big kid crowds. With so many ways to customize simple recipes like omelets or veggie-packed egg muffins, you can easily whip up that appeases even the pickiest palette without sacrificing nutritional value.

Why Eggs Are Great For Parents Too

Parenting is hard! You’re busy, you’re tired, and it’s all too easy to forget to take care of yourself. But being mindful of your own health and nutrition is doubly important when you have little ones to take care of.

By doing something as simple as incorporating nutrient-dense eggs into your family’s meal rotation, you can feel good knowing they deliver key nutrients like choline, which promotes lifelong brain health and the majority of Americans don’t get enough of. And even better, according to the American Heart Association, eggs can be included as part of a heart-healthy diet for healthy adults.

So next time you’re in the kitchen, hard boil some eggs as part of your meal-prep routine to ensure you have a nutrient-rich snack that’s ready to grab on your way out the door.

And Yes, Eggs Are Also Good For Grandparents

Let’s set the record straight here. Extensive research has shown that eggs do not increase heart disease risk. This includes a recent Harvard study examining up to 32 years of data. In fact, according to the American Heart Association, for older healthy individuals, given the nutritional benefits and convenience of eggs, consumption of up to 2 eggs per day is acceptable within a heart-healthy dietary pattern.

In addition, the U.S. Dietary Guidelines hasn't restricted the cholesterol in the food you eat for many years and also recommends eggs as part of a healthy diet. So yes, the seniors in your life can happily and healthily enjoy eggs, too.

Whether you’re scrambling up a family breakfast, baking a tasty quiche, or using them in some of your favorite dinner recipes, you can rest assured that eggs fit perfectly alongside the various fruits and vegetables, whole grains, and other lean proteins in your entire family’s heart-healthy diet.

‘Bachelor’ Alum Sarah Herron's Baby Died Shortly After Birth At 24 Weeks

Bachelor alum Sarah Herron announced in a heartbreaking Instagram post that her son with husband Dylan Brown died shortly after being born at 24 weeks. The couple named their baby boy Oliver, and Herron wrote about her son’s short life before he “passed away in his dad’s arms.”

“On January 28th, at 24 weeks old, our beautiful son Oliver Brown was born. He passed away in his dad’s arms shortly after. There are no words for the magnitude of loss and pain we’re experiencing. It’s beautiful and simultaneously tragic,” Herron wrote in an Instagram on Thursday. “He had my nose and his dad’s mouth and long fingers. Oliver, our IVF miracle defied so many odds and fought through so many hard milestones to be here, but the higher powers still had other plans for the three of us. Our time together was short, but we are grateful for the days we had with Oliver in my belly. He has taught us so much about the integrity of life, love and death.”

Herron, who first announced that she was expecting last September, went on to share several photos of her pregnancy journey with Oliver in the post, sadly including a black and white photo of their final moments together.

Herron wrote about all of the things Oliver was able to share with his family during her pregnancy, including swimming “with sea turtles, he kept me company while I recovered from a broken knee, and he loved his dad’s cooking. Most of all, Oliver loved his morning routine of laying heart to heart with his brother, Rio [the family dog], on my lap.”

Throughout 2022, Herron shared her year-long journey with IVF treatments and was excited to announce that she was expecting in September. Since then, Herron had been sharing updates throughout her pregnancy like a family photo at Christmas, bump photos, and more. The joy she felt was shared by her fans, as was her sorrow.

“Oliver you are so loved,” wrote Bachelor alum Clare Crawley. “Sarah you are the most amazing mother and your strength through everything to fight so hard for your son has been nothing less than beautiful to witness.” Bachelor host Chris Harrison wrote, “God bless you all Sarah. We love you,” while Catherine Guidici wrote, “Oh Sarah, I am so very sorry. I wish I could hug you right now, what a heartbreaking experience for you, precious mama. Sending you so much love and praying for you both right now.”

Herron ended her post with a message to baby Oliver about how much he was loved: “While our hearts are shattered beyond comprehension, we are comforted knowing that our son’s soul only ever knew love and will not suffer in a body that wasn’t built for this life. We’ll never understand the cruelty of it all, but through the darkness, Oliver remains so so bright. We love you so much, baby boy. You will never be replaced. You are so perfect and awesome.”

Jason Kelce's Wife & Kids: The Philadelphia Eagles Star Is A Proud Father

Philadelphia Eagles center Jason Kelce is gearing up for a big weekend. He’s playing in the Super Bowl on Feb. 12 in Arizona, and of course he wants his family by his side. Like, he really wants his family by his side. So much so that his pregnant wife is bringing her OB-GYN along, just in case something happens.

Kelce’s family is making Super Bowl history.

When Jason Kelce hits the field to play against the Kansas City Chiefs on Super Bowl Sunday, he’ll be going up against his very own brother. Travis Kelce is a tight end for the Chiefs, making them the first set of brothers in history to be playing opposite each other in the Super Bowl. Their mom Donna opened up about watching her sons square off against each other in an interview with TODAY and was careful not to cheer more for one son than the other.

“They’ve already got the first win under their belts, so this is just going to be pure joy,” the proud mom told TODAY. “We’re going to really enjoy this, have a great time. Obviously, there’s going to be somebody that’s going to go home heartbroken. They won’t have the bragging rights at the Thanksgiving table, but this is going to be an awesome event and I’m really looking forward to it.”

Jason’s wife Kylie will be rooting for him at the Super Bow... 38 weeks pregnant.

Jason married Kylie McDevitt in 2018, a former communications student and college hockey player, after the two met on a dating app in 2015. Since then, Kylie has been her husband biggest cheerleader in the stands, so much so that he told his brother Travis on their podcast New Heights with Jason and Travis Kelce, “Kylie's bringing her OB because she's going to be 38 weeks pregnant at the game.”

Kylie is expecting the couple’s third baby, and will be 38 weeks pregnant at Super Bowl Sunday. And clearly they don’t want to take any chances. She will be there with her OB-GYN to cheer her husband, and brother-in-law I guess, on and hopefully there won’t be any issues. Although he did note that if she does give birth at the Super Bowl, according to People, “that could be a Super Kelce Bowl.”

The couple’s oldest daughter, Wyatt, was born in 2019.

Jason Kelce and wife Kylie welcomed their oldest daughter Wyatt in October 2019, and right out of the gate she was a big fan of her dad. In fact, the proud dad told his brother that both of his daughters would be at Super Bowl Sunday with their mom. And ahead of Super Bowl Sunday, Kelce caught his daughter Wyatt singing “Fly, Eagles, Fly” on the baby monitor. Obviously he was proud but also he said to wife Kylie, “what have we done?”

Their daughter Elliotte joined the family in March 2021.

Wyatt became a big sister when mom Kylie gave birth to Elliotte in March 2021. Little Elliotte has not been out in the world for a very long time, but she’s about to become a big sister herself.

The couple are expecting another daughter very soon, hopefully not at the actual Super Bowl but very soon. We already have two Kelces playing in the Super Bowl. They don’t need to be upstaged by another being born in the stands.

33 Best Frozen Appetizers From Trader Joe's For Super Bowl 2023

When stocking up on snacks for you 2023 Super Bowl party, you could go to big box stores like Costco or BJs and get a bountiful amount of delicious food to feed a crowd. But if you’re hosting a more intimate football-themed soiree, you might want to choose some appetizers that are slightly more, shall we say, sophisticated. And while there’s nothing wrong with copious amounts of chips and dip, the best frozen appetizers from Trader Joe’s might elevate your hosting game to a whole new playing field. (Ha.)

Whether you’re rooting for the Philadelphia Eagles or the Kansas City Chiefs, one thing’s for certain: Your guests are going to be hungry. And really, there’s nothing like a Super Bowl spread to bring out everyone’s appetites. This selection of frozen apps from Trader Joe’s has a little something for everyone — traditional food fare like wings and mini tacos, but it also has some unexpected options, too, involving ingredients like quinoa and filo dough.

So make room in your microwave, open up the air fryer, break out the serving platters, and preheat that oven, because these frozen apps from Trader Joe’s will let you spend less time in the kitchen, and more time rooting for your fave team this Super Bowl Sunday... or just getting down on what promises to be an insane Halftime Show starring Rihanna.

Ratatouille bites

If your only experience with ratatouille is from watching the Disney movie, then you need to try this decadent app for yourself. It has all the ingredients that you’d find in the traditional dish (like stewed veggies), but it’s coated in panko breadcrumbs and fried, making them perfectly poppable for your party.

Potatoes and veggies

When you think of Super Bowl party food, you’re probably thinking finger food that’s fried. But if you want to serve something slightly healthy, this country potatoes with haricots verts and wild mushrooms will elevate your affair to something more sophisticated. It’s also an excellent vegetarian option, and at $3.49, won’t break the bank.

Sweet potato fries

If you’re serving burgers and dogs, you probably want a potato to go along with it. But instead of serving the typical spuds, try these better-for-you sweet potato fries instead. Costing $2.49, you can pop them in the air fryer for a crispy tater that your discerning French fry-loving kid will gobble down.

Cheesy Greek spiral

Gouda, kasseri, kefalotyri, blue cheese, and a semi-hard cheese come together beautifully in this Greek spiral. Essentially a Greek cheese pie, it’s a delicious slice of the Greek isles that you can serve right in the comfort of your own home. And opa! It costs $4.49.

Savory pastry bites

To be honest, you already had us at puff pastry. But these frozen bites from Trader Joe’s are also filled with feta cheese and caramelized onions. The 12-piece pack costs $4.99, and all you’ll need to do is pop them in the oven and then onto a serving platter — if you can avoid popping them into your mouth first, that is.

Korean beef short ribs

Ribs can be the right app for a Super Bowl party. The Korean style beef ribs have a delish marinade that will spice up any get together. They come fully cooked, so all you’ll need to do is serve them solo on a platter or with a side for an entrée.

Focaccia

There’s something sophisticated about serving focaccia than, say, pizza. And this tomato and red onion Italian variety from Trader Joe’s ($3.99) is decadent and delicious. You could always add some cheese on the top and transform it into a pizza if the kids want it, but with these yummy flavors, you don’t really need to.

Corn ribs

You might expect to see corn on the cob, or individual kernels, but corn ribs? Well, this frozen Trader Joe’s app has kid-friendly (and fun) written all over it. Eaten like a French fry, the seasoned corn ribs are vegan and gluten free, and cost $3.99. Heat them up and watch them disappear.

Meat lasagna

When your party food is taking a little longer to cook than you hoped, you can always serve this meat lasagna instead. Once heated through, the family-style lasagna can be cut into smaller portions to make it into an appetizer-friendly size. With loads of meat and cheese, it’s sure to be a total touchdown (and at $6.49, the price is right, too).

Lemongrass chicken sticks

Walk away from the wings for a moment, if you will, and try out these lemongrass chicken spring rolls. They’re crunchy, which makes them perfect for Super Bowl munching, and they’re ready in just three minutes. Serve with a side of dipping sauce, or plain since they’re super savory, making them one of the best frozen appetizers Trader Joe’s has to offer. Ten sticks come in a box for about four bucks.

Chicken spring rolls

Made with white meat, basil, garlic and ginger, this crispy appetizer of chicken spring rolls is a crowd-pleaser. That said, one package comes with just five spring rolls, so you’ll either have to buy a couple of boxes, or get crafty and cut them on a diagonal for extra servings.

Creamy roasted cauliflower & onion dip

Surprise your guests by swapping out the salsa for Trader Joe’s delicious cauliflower onion dip. It’s made with roasted cauliflower and onion, and is creamy and dreamy. Serve it with crackers, crudités, or even chunks of fancy French bread. They won’t even miss the red stuff.

Parmesan pastry pups

Pigs in a blanket. Cocktail beef franks. There are so many names you could call this frozen appetizer from Trader Joe’s, but these pastry pups are essentially mini beef franks wrapped in puff pastry (just with a fancier name). The good-for-you benefit of these pastry pups is that there is no nitrate or nitrite artificially added to them. They have a sprinkling of parmesan cheese, too, which should make them extra crispy once you take them out of the oven. We predict that these puppies will disappear pretty quickly.

Broccoli & cauliflower gratin

You can feel good about your Super Bowl menu lineup when you serve this frozen veggie app from TJ’s: broccoli and cauliflower gratin. The two vegetables make a great team in this cheesy gratin that’s easy on the taste buds.

Beef mini tacos

Make your Super Bowl fiesta fabulous when you serve up these mini beef tacos. Put them on a plate by themselves, or if you want to get really fancy, surround them with some chips, dip, and guac for a total touchdown.

Party size mini meatballs

Can you really call it a Super Bowl party if there aren’t any meatballs being served? Trader Joe’s party size frozen mini meatballs can be an easy and affordable way to feed a crowd. These little mini marvels are fully cooked and flame broiled for a just-off-the-grill taste. You can serve them as is, submerge them in some sauce with your choice of pasta, or slice open a hoagie and turn them into the ultimate grinder.

Personal pizzas

Good luck getting your local pizzeria to deliver on Super Bowl Sunday. Instead, just heat up these bambino pepperoni pizzas, which are perfect for Game Day. There are four mini pizzas in this $4 box, so you might want to pick up a few packages.

Chicken wings

Your guests are gonna love these Trader Joe’s frozen wings, which are hot and spicy. You can serve them solo, or with dipping sauces or dressings like ranch or blue cheese. Add some crudités, and you’ve got a platter everyone will gather around.

Battered fish nuggets

Nuggets are never a bad Super Bowl Sunday food for kids, and a 16 oz. package of frozen fish nuggets from Trader Joe’s will feed plenty. They’re ideal for the oven, so save your microwave for melting the cheese on top of your nachos instead.

Spanakopita

When it comes to easy-to-eat apps, you can’t beat spanakopita. Filled with ingredients like spinach, ricotta, and feta cheese, all that Greek goodness is wrapped in even yummier puff pastry. Spanakopita isn’t something that you’d want to microwave, though, so be sure to heat the apps in the oven so they’ll be ready in time for kick-off. A 12-ounce packet costs $4.49.

Creamy spinach & artichoke dip

Could you crack open a jar of salsa and call it a day? Sure. But what about Trader Joe’s creamy spinach and artichoke dip? The dip, which retails for $3.29, is ideally served warm, and pairs perfectly with better-for-you dippers like crudités, crackers, or multigrain chips. It also offers an extra level of creamy cheesy goodness that your guests will love.

Buffalo style chicken poppers

Move over, jalapeño poppers. The buffalo style chicken poppers offer everything you’d want from a Super Bowl Sunday app — and so much more. Inside the crispy phyllo dough is a filling made from white meat chicken and spicy cheese. Yum. There are 10 pieces in this pack, so you might want to score a touchdown (with your guests, that is), and stock up on some extra boxes, just in case the game goes into overtime.

Organic veggie bites

Sure, they look just like tater tots, but there’s so much more to these organic veggie bites than meets the eye. First of all, they’re made with organic vegetables and sunflower seeds. They’re vegan and gluten-free, too. For the kid who might be a stickler about spuds, just serve a dipping sauce (like ketchup or honey mustard), and they’ll (probably) never notice the difference.

Mandarin orange morsels

Mandarin orange chicken is usually just that — chicken. Not so with this meatless marvel, which is a “chicken-less” orange chicken morsel. But with its delicious sauce and smooth texture, your guests will never suspect that they’re eating a vegan app. The 9.25 oz. package retails for $3.79.

French onion soup

If you’re planning to have an intimate Super Bowl Sunday, why not start guests off with a soup starter? This French onion soup from Cuisine Adventures is a soup-er way to get Game Day going. The vegetarian dish is made from slowly simmered fresh onions, Swiss cheese, and croutons. The cool part about this hot soup is that it microwaves in five minutes flat!

Quinoa duo

A product of France, Trader Joe’s quinoa duo would be a delightful dish to serve on Super Bowl Sunday. It’s made with quinoa and root veggies like carrots and squash, with a truly tasty sauce. The bag weighs 16 oz. and retails for $3.99, which is a small price to pay for not having to chop up all those veggies yourself.

Breaded fried ravioli

Ravioli all on its own is yummy, but seasoned, breaded, and fried? Yes, please. This blink-twice-and-they’ll-be-gone breaded fried ravioli is one of Trader Joe’s best frozen appetizers and will probably be the MVP of your party. Although you could bake them in the oven, what would be even more awesome is putting them in an air fryer for some crazy good crispiness. A bowl of warmed marinara is the perfect dipping sauce for these pockets of cheesy deliciousness.

Mac n cheese

Here’s the thing about mac ‘n cheese. Since it’s such a kid-fave food, it’s gone almost before it’s even gotten to the table. Chances are, though, you might get to dine on the Trader Joe’s Hatch Chile Mac & Cheese for $2.99. Why? Well, in addition to the traditional mac ‘n cheese we all know and love, this more adult-friendly version has roasted chiles from Hatch, New Mexico. And that added spiciness means that there will be more for the adults — for once.

Cauliflower gnocchi

Getting kids to eat their veggies is like an exercise in futility. But they’ll be none the wiser when you serve this cauliflower gnocchi, which, according to Trader Joe’s, is a customer favorite. You can serve it saucy, or even just pop some toothpicks in each one for a quick, easy (and healthy) app. The vegan appetizer comes frozen and costs $2.99.

Loaded potatoes

French fries are fine for any Super Bowl soiree, but what about packing on the potatoes? Trader Joe’s loaded potatoes are made with diced spuds, ground beef, tomatoes, and cheeses. (Note: cheeses, not just one cheese.) Of course, you could always add onto the app by sprinkling extra ingredients on the top, like sliced green onions, or, you know, more melted cheese. This will definitely be a dish that guests will want to scoop up and plop on their plates.

Root vegetable fries

French fries made from potatoes are so passé. These better-for-you Root Vegetable Fries from Trader Joe’s are tasty, and healthier, too. They’re made from roasted sweet potatoes, carrots, beets, and parsnips, only in fry form. Your kids might find the colorful “fries” fun to eat, but don’t worry, we won’t tell them that they’re good for them.

Chicken wings

You won’t have to “wing it” when you serve up these chicken wings on Game Day. The fully cooked wings are hot and spicy, and are antibiotic and hormone-free. You can bake them in the oven or microwave them during half time for the perfect pick-me-up in case your team is, um, losing. A one-pound bag retails for $5.99 — just be sure to stock up on the blue cheese dressing!

Turkey corn dogs

Although corn dogs might never be able to claim to be the healthiest food on the planet, they’re still yummy and one of Trader Joe’s best frozen appetizers. That’s why these Turkey Corn Dogs should be put on a platter right away. They’re made from turkey franks that have no nitrates or nitrites added. They’re a bunch of battered dipped yumminess on a stick. Guaranteed they’ll be gone before the first quarter is over.

Whether you’re having a huge crowd or just your kids, apps are always the way to kick off any Super Bowl Sunday. With such a wide variety of Trader Joe’s frozen appetizers for the Super Bowl, the only problem will be making enough space in your freezer to store them all until Game Day.

Kate Winslet On Why Kids Shouldn't Have Smartphones Or Be On Social Media

Kate Winslet has shared her thoughts on why she won’t allow her three kids, and herself, to be on social media. In a recent interview with BBC Woman, Winslet opened up about her decision to keep her children from using social media and had some practical advice for other parents who might want to do the same with their kids. As she put it, parents can just say “no” when kids ask to use social media and get a smartphone.

Winslet is starring alongside her 22-year-old daughter Mia Threapleton in the BBC film I Am Ruth, which documents a teenage girl’s downward spiral caused by social media. Something Winslet herself is concerned is happening with far too many children. In an interview with Emma Barnett for BBC Woman, Winslet explained that, while she doesn’t “want to be accused of being a celebrity standing up on some soap box,” she does believe it’s “possible to just say ‘no’” when kids ask for a smartphone or want a social media account.

“My children don’t have social media and haven’t had social media,” Winslet explained. “There are many fake accounts out there for myself and also my children, weirdly, so I’m told. But it is possible to just say, ‘No you can’t have it.’”

The Mare of Easttown star, who is also mom to 19-year-old son Joe and 9-year-old son Bear, went on to share how she would explain her reason for saying no to her own children. “You can’t have it because I want you to enjoy your life. I want you to be a child. I want you to look up at the clouds and not photograph them and post them on your Instagram page and decide whether or not the clouds were worth looking at because someone else thought that they were rubbish.”

“Don’t let your children have a phone if they are too young to know what to do with it,” Winslet added.

Winslet pointed out how social media can affect a child’s self esteem, an issue that’s being increasingly addressed by health experts and even U.S. Surgeon General Vivek Murthy, who called out the accepted streaming platform guideline of 13 years old as too young.

The concerned mom of three also noted that being locked into social media is making kids more depressed, “This world that you can burrow deeper and deeper into it, and it becomes darker and trickier and much, much harder for children to navigate. I think because people, young children, are having phones at a much earlier age, they're able to access things that emotionally they're just not equipped or sophisticated enough to know how to process.”

As Winslet mentioned, teenagers are becoming more depressed, according to data shared by Child Mind Institute, and that depression could certainly be linked to social media. Being so invested in an online world can leave them feeling more isolated and alone, and keeps them from doing activities that might make them feel better like group sports or other hobbies.

But beyond self esteem, Winslet pointed out that parents could be struggling with feeling “utterly powerless” as their children access an online world far beyond their scope. “I think because people, young children, are having phones at a much earlier age, they're able to access things that emotionally they're just not equipped or sophisticated enough to know how to process,” she told the BBC.

It isn’t easy to tell your kids they can’t have social media. The pressure to conform is enormous, of course. But perhaps Winslet has a point.

How can I watch the Puppy Bowl in 2023?

In 2023, there are several ways to watch the Puppy Bowl. The annual event, which is marking its 19th year, will be simulcast across Animal Planet, Discovery Channel, TBS. It will also be available to stream on HBO Max and discovery+. Dan Schachner will return as the Puppy Bowl referee and sportscasters Steve Levy and Taylor Rooks will also return to provide play-by-play commentary.

Over 100 puppies will compete on Team Ruff and Team Fluff at Puppy Bowl XIX.

Over 100 puppies will be participating in the competition. The pups are from rescue shelters in 34 states, including Colorado, Seattle, Los Angeles, and upstate New York.

“Being there with so many other rescues from across the country and interacting with them and hearing what they do and what their stories are,” Julie Starr, founder of Buddy’s Second Chance Rescue in Amherst, New York told New York Upstate. It’s heartwarming to see all of these rescues across the country come together and participate,” she said. “It shines a huge spotlight on what shelters and rescues do as a whole, being the voice for these animals. Without these people dedicating their time and making sacrifices, these dogs wouldn’t have a chance.”

Eleven dogs with special needs will also be competing in the game. Special needs pups include Julius, a hearing-impaired Dalmatian; Marmalade, a sight and hearing-impaired Border Collie/ Australian Cattle Dog; and Mykonos an American Staffordshire Terrier/ Bulldog with a cleft palate.

Also for the first time, a Native American animal organization and a puppy player from Dominica, West Indies will be featured in the annual event.
