The 7 Best Toddler Utensils

Toddlers often want to do everything on their own, and eating is no exception — which is why it's important to choose the best toddler utensils for a safe and easy mealtime. While CDC guidelines state that babies can use a spoon to feed themselves starting at 10 to 12 months and a fork soon after, they also suggest that many initial attempts will be unsteady at first. That’s why top-rated toddler utensils feature easy-to-grip handles designed specifically for little hands, with some options made from softer materials that are gentler on the gums for those still working on their coordination.

While standard metal silverware might be the eventual goal, your toddler might find it easier to start with silverware made from softer materials like bamboo, recycled plastic, or wheat straw. As your child’s table skills progress, they can give stainless steel utensils a try. Some stainless steel utensils will have grips made from other materials that might be easier for a newbie to hold, while others are essentially toddler-size adult utensils shaped for little hands (aka perfect for transitioning to adult silverware). Utensil manufacturers often provide a recommended age range, if you find it helpful to consider.

You should also take the size and shape of the utensils into account. Some utensils are curved so that the eating surface won’t touch the table, or hit the ground when dropped. A handle with a stop can help overeager eaters who might accidentally place the utensil too far into their mouths. Most toddler utensils have a shorter, ergonomically designed handle, but some also have scoop-like tip that makes it easier for beginners to dip the utensil into a bowl of food. Toddler utensils can come in sets with multiple pieces, or be packaged individually, so no matter which features you prefer, make sure they’re available in your preferred format.

Finally, if you don’t want to spend a lot on utensils your child will use for a limited time, a less expensive batch of utensils might be just the ticket. But whether you want to invest in pricier utensils or buy a cheap multipack, these highly-rated toddler utensils are beloved by tons of parents — and they’re all dishwasher safe to boot.

1. A Budget-Friendly Set Of 16 Toddler Utensils

TOMY The First Years Take & Toss Flatware For Kids (16 Pieces)
Amazon
  • Recommended age: 9 months and up (although the CDC recommends children start feeding themselves with utensils at 10-12 months and up)

With 16 pieces for under $5, it’s hard to beat the price of this plastic flatware set, which comes with eight forks and eight spoons in assorted colors. The price point makes the utensils an ideal choice both for family meal or on-the-go eating, since it’s not a big deal if you lose a few, and they’re safe to recycle after use if you want to toss them. The handles have a textured grip and a finger groove that makes it easier for little hands to hold. The plastic material is softer than metal for beginner self-feeders, and fork’s rounded tines and spoon’s scoop shape make these a cinch for toddlers to use. When you’re ready to reuse them, they’re safe to wash in the dishwasher.

In addition to the flatware set, the brand also sells matching storage bowl sets and infant spoons, if you care to add those to your order.

Helpful Amazon review: “Good quality for the price. Able to withstand multiple uses, holds up to the high temperatures of the dishwasher, and cheap enough that I'm not sad when we lose one. My toddler thinks it's fun to throw away utensils so I expect these will disappear quickly but if they happen to hang around they are quite durable and should last without issue. [...] The handle is curved and has finger grooves that encourages a solid grip. The spoon and fork base have a concave shape that helps to hold food on. Perfect for travel, daycare, or for the toddler that enjoys trashing your dishes. I would definitely buy them again.”

2. A Fan-Favorite Spoon & Fork Set

Munchkin Raise Toddler Fork & Spoon Set (4 Pieces)
Amazon
  • Recommended age: 12 months and up

This fork and spoon set from Munchkin makes mealtime fun for your toddler as they transition to metal utensils — and with more than 18,000 Amazon reviews and a 4.8-star rating overall, it’s safe to say lots of parents are big fans, too. The set includes two forks and two spoons, each of which has a stainless steel tip, which means they might not be right for toddlers just starting to feed themselves, but could be a great choice for more coordinated self feeders. That said, the ergonomically-shaped plastic base has a soft grip for little hands, and each utensil has a built-in barrier that keeps the tips of the utensils from touching the floor or table when your little one sets them down or drops them. This barrier also acts as a stop so your child doesn’t stick the utensil too far into their mouth and choke.

The set is dishwasher safe for easy cleaning. You can buy it in sets of four blue and green or pink and purple-colored utensils, or in six-packs of all blue or all purple.

Helpful Amazon review: “Easy for [my] toddler to hold, keeps utensil off the table when she puts it down, prevents toddler from accidentally putting utensil too far into her mouth.”

3. A Plastic Fork & Spoon For Younger Toddlers

Grabease First Self Feed Toddler Utensils Set (3 Pieces)
Amazon
  • Recommended age: 6 months and up (although the CDC recommends children start feeding themselves at 10-12 months and up)

Ideal for younger toddlers, these Grabease utensils come with a spoon, fork, plus a carrying case for on-the-go eating. Made of safe, durable plastic, the ergonomic handles are designed to be easy for small hands to hold and grip. The softer material is safe for toddlers who are new to self-feeding, and the design includes a stop that prevents choking. The utensil set comes in a bunch of different colors, and can be washed in the dishwasher between uses.

Helpful Amazon review: “My [toddler] was having trouble getting food from plate to mouth with the typical sized toddler spoons. These solved that! She has no problem getting the food all the way into her mouth without spilling everything off in the air.”

4. A Set Of Stainless Steel Utensils For Older Toddlers

ANNOVA Kids Silverware Children's Safe Flatware Set For LunchBox (6 Pieces)
Amazon
  • Recommended age: 24 months and up

Annova’s six-piece flatware set, which includes three forks and three spoons, is a great way for toddlers to learn how to use grown-up utensils. The traditional stainless steel design is better for more advanced eaters, but the utensils are sized for smaller hands. All pieces of the mirror-polished set have cute animal designs on the handles and are dishwasher safe, making clean-up a breeze. The manufacturer promises the pieces will not scratch, break, chip, rust, or dent.

Helpful Amazon review: “These are the perfect size for my 3 year old who still struggles a bit with the full sized silverware. Quality is excellent and he is very comfortable using these. I find that he doesn't just drop everything off of the spoon when he uses it...it actually works properly! And the fork is shorter so the food doesn't get caught too far back that he can't eat it, like with regular sized forks. Very happy with these!”

5. These Toddler Utensils Made From Recycled Plastic

RE-PLAY Toddler Feeding Spoon & Fork Set (8 Pieces)
Amazon
  • Recommended age: all ages (although the CDC recommends children start feeding themselves at 10-12 months and up)

The RE-PLAY utensil set, which includes four forks and four spoons, is made from recycled plastic milk jugs, giving your little one an eco-friendly way to eat her food. Deep scoops keep food in place on each spoon, while each fork’s rounded edges won’t poke tender gums. The handles are shaped to be easily gripped by toddler hands. The set is available in a bunch of different color combinations, is safe to clean in your dishwasher, and is stackable if you want to store it in a drawer.

Helpful Amazon review: “This toddler spoon and fork is the easiest for my toddler to use! The other brands were too flat and difficult to keep food on the spoon. These are more of a little bowl shape and he can get the food to his mouth without spilling it!”

6. A Fork & Spoon For Toddlers That Will Look Nice On The Table

mushie Fork & Spoon Set (2 Pieces)
Amazon
  • Recommended age: not stated (although the CDC recommends children start feeding themselves with utensils at 10-12 months and up)

Toddler utensils aren’t typically the most aesthetically pleasing thing on the dinner table, but this beautiful fork and spoon set from mushie breaks the mold. The set hails from Denmark, where it was specifically designed to be durable, elegant, and safe, so your little one can eat in style. The set comes in assorted muted colors, with matching cups, plates, and bowls available for purchase on the same product page. It’s made from dishwasher-safe polypropylene plastic that shouldn’t be too tough on your child’s gums. That said, the set seems to be designed for older toddlers and children, since the shape matches adult silverware a little more closely than most.

Helpful Amazon review: “Great fork and spoon for our 2yo. She is able to use both the fork and spoon despite the fact they are a bit longer than the regular toddler size. They are easy to grab and manipulate. The fork has flexible "teeth" ([...] and [is] hard and thin enough to go through soft food.

7. A Set Of Toddler Utensils Made From Wheat Straw

Boieo Kids Spoons And Forks Set (6 Pieces)
Amazon
  • Recommended age: not stated (although the CDC recommends children start feeding themselves with utensils at 10-12 months and up)

The Boieo Kids spoon and fork Set are made from a natural wheat straw material. This set of utensils has nonslip handles and is great for kids to use as they learn how to use spoons and forks. The set comes in three colors: pink, green, and blue, and is free of latex, lead, BPA, and phthalates. The manufacturer doesn’t specify if the utensils are dishwasher safe, but reviewers state that they were able to put them through a wash cycle without issues.

Helpful Amazon review: “Just started transitioning my 17-month-old toddler to spoons & forks that are shaped like regular utensils. This was a great set! I really like the colors and texture. The size is perfect for her. The spoon is also wide enough so she can drink soup on her own. The tips of the fork is still smooth and round enough so that it is still safe to use. Highly recommended.”

The 9 Best iPad Cases For Kids

It’s no secret that iPads are pricey, so if you’ve splurged on one for your kiddo, you’ll certainly want to ensure it’s protected from falls, throws, bumps, and other accidents. When you purchase one of the best iPad cases for kids, take care to pick one that’s compatible with your iPad model (make sure you know exactly which one you have, since each generation and type can vary when it comes to screen size, button and camera placement, etc.) and make sure it is made from shock-absorbent and impact-resistant materials like foam, silicone, or plastic. Depending on how worried you are about possible damage to the tablet, you might opt for additional protective features as well, such as a built-in screen protector or waterproofing.

While it’s important to find a case that fits and properly protects your child’s iPad, there are also some amazing features you’ll want to consider looking for. If your kid uses their iPad to watch movies or shows, or for gaming, consider a case with a built-in stand that’ll prop up the device for easier viewing. Some stands rotate 360 degrees for use in a vertical or horizontal position, while others are magnetic and can be adjusted to a variety of viewing angles. Some cases boast straps to hang the tablet on your vehicle’s headrest for hands-free entertainment on the road. If your child is using their iPad for school or learning, a keyboard can be helpful to have. For easy carrying, look for a case with a handle, hand strap, or shoulder strap.

Finally, since the iPad case will be used by your child, it’s important to pick one with aesthetics they’ll love. These parent-approved cases come in a range of colors and designs that are sure to meet your child’s approval, too. Covering a range of iPad models, you’ll surely find the perfect fit for your child’s tablet.

1. A Fan-Favorite iPad Case With A Built-In Screen Protector

BMOUO Kids Case for iPad
Amazon
  • Compatibility: iPad 8th generation, iPad 7th generation

A whopping 4.7-star rating overall on Amazon, among 19,000 and growing reviews, is proof of just how good this iPad case from BMOUO truly is. Tons of reviewers on the site specifically call out the fact that this pick is amazingly sturdy — it’s made from a rubber-like EVA foam material that absorbs impact — and that it even has a built-in screen protector to prevent scratches and other damage. The stand on the back can be positioned at two different angles — a “watching” angle and a “typing” one (for typing on-screen), and the handle on top makes for easy carrying.

Choose from a variety of brightly colored options. BMOUO also sells a version of this case for fifth and sixth generation iPads.

Enthusiastic Amazon review: “We bought both the blue and black cases and find that they are sturdy, lightweight, easy to put on, and we're grateful for the extra screen protector, which is a feature that other kids cases don't often have. The flaps at the back are easy to take out/put back in, and do a pretty good job of keeping the iPad upright at the right angle and not falling over. We had previously used a different, but similar looking, iPad case for the kids and thought it was sufficient until we got these. They are truly great and we definitely recommend to others!”

2. A Case That’ll Fit Most iPad Mini Models

LEDNICEKER Kids Case
Amazon
  • Compatibility: iPad Mini 5th generation, iPad Mini 4th generation, iPad Mini 3rd generation, iPad Mini 2nd generation, iPad Mini 1st generation

If you’ve scooped up an iPad Mini for your child, this case from LEDNICEKER is designed to fit securely on most generations of the Mini tablet, and it will offer amazing protection since it’s made from thick, heavy-duty foam that’ll fully cover the back and sides. The foam even extends above the surface of the tablet to protect the screen if it happens to end up face-down. The case features a handle for easy carrying, and the foldable kickstand on the back actually swivels to allow for different viewing angles.

Choose from seven solid color options, including red, black, purple, and green.

Enthusiastic Amazon review: “We bought two of these for my kids (5 and 8) to protect their iPads. One of the iPads we had for over 5 years and the stand on the previous cover broke within months. The stands on these are durable and sturdy. They are definitely bulky but you need that if you want to allow your small children to hold an iPad. They have lasted through the test of time and several long drives including one move. They have definitely been dropped and have protected the iPad minis. No breakage and they're still going strong. I don't know if it matters to anyone else but the colors have stayed vibrant and true. My phone case gets discolored easily and these do not. They wipe off easily and are still bright in the red and blue that we ordered.”

3. A Cool Robot Case That’s Great For Car Rides

LTROP iPad Case
Amazon
  • Compatibility: iPad 8th generation, iPad 7th generation, iPad Air 3, iPad Pro 10.5-inch

Not only is this iPad case from LTROP seriously cool — I mean, have you seen the robot on the back? — but it’s also highly functional. The case features a detachable strap that allows you to easily hang it on the headrest of your car to allow for hands-free entertainment while on the road. It even converts to a shoulder strap for when your child needs to carry their tablet around. Three handles (two on the sides, one up top) make this pick super easy for little hands to hold, and the robot on the back doubles as a kickstand. The iPad case is constructed from EVA foam, so it’s shock-absorbing and sturdy.

Choose from seven fun color options. LTROP also sells another version of this case that’s compatible with the fifth and sixth generation iPads, iPad Air 1 and 2, and the iPad Pro 9.7-inch.

Enthusiastic Amazon review: “Got a free iPad with our phones and never knew how many times our kids would drop it. This case has kept it safe each time. The strap [lets] us hang it on the back of the drivers seat for long car rides. All buttons and ports remain easily accessible. The stand holds it at the perfect angle for kids laying belly down on the floor, or sitting at the table.”

4. A Highly Rated iPad Case With A Built-In Keyboard

YEKBEE iPad Keyboard Case
Amazon
  • Compatibility: iPad 8th generation, iPad 7th generation, iPad Air 3, iPad Pro 10.5-inch

If your child needs to do any typing with their iPad (whether for school or other activities), then it would definitely be wise to invest in a case with a built-in keyboard. And this one from YEKBEE is without a doubt the best of the best, boasting a solid 4.5-star rating overall on Amazon, among a whopping 16,000 and growing reviews. Reviewers specifically mention that they like that the keyboard’s colorful backlighting, which allows for use in darker conditions, as well as the fact that it’s simple to connect it to the iPad using Bluetooth.

The case itself is made from a hard plastic to protect the tablet. However, just keep in mind this material isn’t quite as shock-absorbent as others on this list so might not be the best choice for younger kids who might expose it to more drops and bumps. The 360-degree hinge allows the screen position to be adjusted as desired. This pick also has a built-in spot for an Apple Pencil (or a compatible alternative), so it won’t ever get misplaced. Auto sleep and wake initiates when the case is open or closed to conserve battery life.

Choose from a variety of solid color options.

Enthusiastic Amazon review: “I was nervous to receive this because I suspected it would be flimsy plastic and not withstand the roughness of my children. BUT to my delight it is very sturdy and we haven’t had to be super careful with it. It travels everywhere we go so school can be done anywhere and so far it’s served us well. I feel like it would protect the iPad if it were dropped. I would recommend this to everyone!”

5. A Cute iPad Case With A Butterfly Stand

Feitenn iPad Case
Amazon
  • Compatibility: iPad 6th generation, iPad 5th generation, iPad Pro 9.7-inch, iPad Air 2, iPad Air 1

When it comes to iPad cases, it doesn’t get much cuter than this pick from Feitenn, which has a 3-D butterfly on the back that serves as the stand for the case — the wings can even be adjusted to a variety of different angles! Made from thick EVA foam, the case is ultra-protective, providing cushioning against drops, bumps, tosses, and the like. Amazon reviewers back up this pick, giving it a solid 4.6-star rating overall on the site, after more than 3,000 reviews, with tons of buyers specifically commenting that their kids gravitate towards the design of this sweet case. Choose from eight color options, like pink, yellow, blue, and orange.

Feitenn also sells another version of this case sized to fit the seventh and eighth generation iPads, iPad Air 3, and iPad Pro 10.5-inch.

Enthusiastic Amazon review: “Strongest dang protector we’ve ever had and the longest lasting. My toddler has had this on the iPad for about a year now. It’s been dropped, thrown, stepped on (we are over that part now thank god), dropped from the Jeep, held in the rain, sneezed on, spilled on, thrown up on and not a Knick on the iPad. I’m pretty sure King Kong himself couldn’t penetrate this thing. If a 2 year old can’t, no one and nothing can.”

6. An Ultra-Durable iPad Case That Can Withstand 15-Foot Drops

Miesherk STOCK iPad Pro Case
Amazon
  • Compatibility: iPad Pro 4th generation (12.9-inch), iPad Pro 3rd generation (12.9-inch)

This iPad case from Miesherk STOCK definitely tops the list when it comes to durability. The case boasts three layers of shockproof materials (it’s made from a combination of silicone and hard plastic) that have passed a military-grade drop test of 15 feet — yep, you read that right! It’s worth mentioning that this case doesn’t have a built-in screen protecter, though, so you might want to purchase one separately if you want as much protection as possible.

Beyond durability, this pick has a lot of other features going for it. For one, it has both a hand stand and a kick stand (which can be rotated 360 degrees for different viewing positions), plus it comes with a detachable shoulder strap for easy transport. The built-in pencil holder with a magnetic attachment is designed to keep an Apple Pencil always within reach. Choose from four color options. This pick is backed by a 360-day warranty, so you have nothing to lose by giving it a shot.

Enthusiastic Amazon review: “It was a great product especially for kids who tend to break the screen very easily. The pencil holder place is also very awesome and very easy to charge without removing the case. Overall it’s a great product for anyone with best price for anyone.”

7. An Adorable Freestanding iPad Case For Younger Kids

CHINFAI iPad Case
Amazon
  • Compatibility: iPad 6th generation, iPad 5th generation, iPad Pro 9.7-inch, iPad Air 2, iPad Air 1

Younger kids will totally love this freestanding iPad case from CHINFAI since it features a seriously adorable 3-D creature design and it stands up on its own using just its two feet — perfect if your child hasn’t quite yet figured out how to utilize the built-in, adjustable kickstand. Made from impact-proof silicone, the case provides excellent cushioning against harsh handling. And the corners even feature double the amount of silicone for extra protection. Two large grips on the side make it super easy to carry the tablet around.

Choose from a couple of fun color options, including blue, pink, and purple.

Enthusiastic Amazon review: “I am very happy I ordered this case. My toddler loves it. It’s very easy to put on and it’s way more comfortable for my toddler to walk around with the iPad. She loves the fact that it also stands on it own. It’s also a durable case when she dropped the iPad the case protected the iPad very well.”

8. A Waterproof Case For The iPad Air 4

Ezanmull iPad Air Case
Amazon
  • Compatibility: iPad Air 4th generation

If there’s even a slight chance that your child’s iPad could come in contact with water, it’s worthwhile to opt for a case that’s waterproof. And luckily, this pick from Ezanmull offers this highly protective feature; when using the case, your child’s tablet can be submerged in 3.3 feet of water for an entire hour and come out just fine. Since the case covers the entire tablet, it’ll prevent dust, dirt, and other debris from coming into contact with the iPad, too. Other helpful features include a kickstand, a shoulder strap for easy transport, and a built-in Apple Pencil holder. The case comes in just one color: black.

Enthusiastic Amazon review: “This case is honestly perfect for what it is. The fact that the options for waterproof iPad Air cases are limited, I really love this case for the price. [...] Overall, I would say that this case is was a great buy.”

9. A 5th Generation iPad Pro Case With An Adjustable Magnetic Stand

Soke New iPad Pro Case
Amazon

Paralympian Melissa Stockwell Is Showing Her Kids How To Dream Big

Triathlete Melissa Stockwell represents many “firsts.” She was a first lieutenant in the 1st Calvary Division of the United States Army. In 2004, her unarmored humvee was thrown into a guardrail by an roadside bomb, costing Stockwell her left leg above the knee and making her the first female soldier to lose a limb in the Iraq War. But just four years later, in 2008, she was the first Iraq War veteran to represent the United States at the Paralympics when she competed in swimming events at the 2008 Games in Beijing. Rio followed in 2016 and Tokyo makes her third Paralympics in 13 years.

Despite all she’s already accomplished, Stockwell had measured expectations going into the 2020 Tokyo Paralympics. Shortly after she announced she was headed to Toyko, she crashed her bike into a tree while training, severely bruising her pelvis and fracturing her back in three places. Though doctors assured her it was “the best place to break a back” and surgery was not needed, the accident severely affected her ability to train. Nevertheless, she was determined to continue on to Tokyo to represent the United States and her family, broken back be damned — and on August 28, she placed fifth in Women’s Triathlon at the Games. “I felt like I had won the race,” she tweeted.

When she’s not training, she works as a prosthetist in Colorado, where she lives with her husband Brian and children Dallas, 6 and Millie, 4, and is the co-founder of the Dare2tri Paratriathlon Club, a non-profit that helps athletes with physical disabilities get into the sport of triathlon. Romper spoke to Stockwell in early August about the Tokyo Games, parenthood, and what she hopes to accomplish in both.

Romper: So, as a mom and an elite athlete, what does a typical day look like for you?

MS: Well, we'll start with today. This morning, I was up, my alarm went off about 6:30. I was downstairs on the treadmill — kind of this unweighted treadmill thing I have going on with the ability to run — from about 6:45 to 7:30. My husband got the kids up. I came upstairs. He got them breakfast. We were out the door by 8:15 to bring my daughter to daycare and my son to his summer camp. And then I went to the Olympic training center where I swam from 9:30 to 11:00. So we basically swim every morning. Came home, jumped on a few calls. So kind of in the afternoon there's work stuff, kid stuff, grocery shopping, whatever it may be. And then I will jump off the call, get in another hour and a half bike ride before I go pick my kids up. Then tonight, my son has hockey and soccer. There's all sorts of activities that are happening in the evening. I would say typically I get about three hours of training in. The days are busy.

How has being a mom informed who you are as an athlete or how you perform as an athlete? And vice versa: how does being an athlete affect your parenting?

MS: I feel like I'm doing sports or trying to achieve my goals and my dreams for more than me. It's for my children also. I want them to look at me and realize that just because you look a little bit different, like mommy doesn't have a leg, doesn't mean you can't get out there and dream big. But also I want them to see me have these big dreams and to reach high for them and to go for them in hopes that they kind of have big dreams of themselves down the line.

It's also great because athletics is such a part of my life, but I have something else to come home to. If I have a bad workout or a bad race, when I come home at the end of the day, I'm Mom. It kind of brings you down a little bit, realizing that it's not all about athletics and sports and there's something on the other side of it all. So it's great. I also want my kids to see me with that sportsmanship or to treat my competitors the way that I would want to be treated. I think as parents we all want our kids to grow up and to be kind humans, and that’s very much along the lines of the Proctor & Gamble Lead with Love campaign.

That was a long answer to a short question, but being a mom has fully enhanced so much of my athleticism.

I’m a reporter: I love long answers to short questions. But speaking of P&G, I know that your charity, Dare2tri, was selected to be a beneficiary of the campaign. Can you tell me more about that?

MS: Triathlon can be very daunting, especially for somebody who has a disability. Maybe you're missing a limb or in a wheelchair. And we kind of take away all the barriers it would take to get to that starting line, whether it's with equipment, with training, with financial assistance. And the impact that we have had on these athletes who start, they're doing their very first race, they cross the finish line and just the self confidence, the self worth that they get is... I mean, you can't beat it. It's incredible just the impact you can have by just showing someone what they can do.

Dare2tri was very proud to be awarded $10,000 for the Athletes for Good Fund, which goes to charitable organizations that support Olympic and Paralympic athletes. In an organization like Dare2tri, it's incredible how far that money will go and how many athletes will be reached.

Have you always been athletic? I think I read somewhere that your first love was gymnastics...

MS: Yep. I was a big gymnast when I was younger; I made it pretty high in the sport, but obviously never made the Games. But it started off in my passion for sports: what they could do, how they can contribute to being the best person we can be.

“[I want my children to know] it's not always an uphill climb. You've got to have bad days or bad races or whatever they get into, bad games, to realize how good the good ones are.”

If your children wanted to follow in your footsteps in competing at an elite level, what advice would you give them?

MS: That it's not always an uphill climb. You've got to have bad days or bad races or whatever they get into, bad games, to realize how good the good ones are. So my advice would be that you know, there's going to be some times that are tough and they're hard, but that makes the times that you're on top even better. So that and just to be the best team player you can be to show that sportsmanship, to get out there and to shake your competitor's hand and just be the person that someone else would want you to be.

Is there an athlete who inspires you?

MS: Allyson Felix. She’s such an icon of an athlete that for her to speak out about the importance and hardships of being a mom and being an elite athlete goes a long way. And then she gets out there and she crushes it on the track. I definitely idolize her for her athleticism but also being a mom and coming back from having her little girl to being where she is now and just speaking out about important issues that she can make a difference in.

Other than ideally medalling, do you have personal goals for Tokyo?

MS: It probably sounds so cliché, but I'm so thrilled that I'm even there. I've trained for three and a half years for this moment, so just to hopefully have the best race I can have and come across the finish line smiling. Obviously best case, is the podium somewhere, but if not, just to enjoy my time being there and be happy with that.

Royal Family Favorite Foods: Waffles, Curry & More

When you are the Queen of England, you never have to cook your own food. And, perhaps it’s safe to assume, you get to eat pretty much anything you want. These are two big perks of being in the job that make us commoners entirely too jealous of the entire royal family. Imagine if you could just have an amazing chef cook up whatever you wanted at a moment’s notice. What would you eat? What would your favorite foods be? What could the royals’ favorite foods be since they have access to basically everything?

Queen Elizabeth and her royal brood are known to enjoy spending time together and partaking of a good meal or two. Whether they’re all hunkered down together for Christmas at Sandringham Estate or spending their summer holiday walking around the Scottish hills of Balmoral Castle, they’re bound to be eating some pretty delicious food. The Queen herself is known to have a bit of a sweet tooth, so you better believe they’re having some good desserts along with their after dinner cocktails.

As for the rest of the royal family... they seem to enjoy a mixed bag of delicacies with some surprising favorites. Even the kids.

The Queen Of Cakes

Darren McGrady, former chef at Buckingham Palace, told the British Heritage website that Queen Elizabeth has one particular dessert she’ll ask for again and again. A chocolate biscuit cake.

“Now the chocolate biscuit bake is the only cake that goes back again and again and again everyday until it's all gone,” he told the outlet.

Let Them Eat Steak

McGrady told Hello! that the Queen loves a Gaelic steak, which is a filet steak topped with a mushroom whiskey sauce, for her royal dinner. Sounds delicious.

Prince Charles Is A Good Egg

Apparently one of Prince Charles’ favorite foods is a single boiled egg, which he reportedly eats every day, per My London. Every. Single. Day.

Dinner Gets Fancy

Prince Charles’ breakfast might be simple, but when it comes to his dinner he likes to go all out. His favorite dinner is a wild mushroom risotto with lamb, and he likes to ensure the mushrooms were grown on his own estate, according to Darren McGrady. So don’t try to order that in a restaurant because you won’t get it.

William’s Curry In A Hurry

Prince William loves a bit of spice to his food, and really favors a chicken tikka masala as his curry of choice. “Chicken masala, love that, a bit of flavor — I'm not a vindaloo man put it that way,” NDTV Food reported he once said. He apparently loves it so much that he’s even used it as a topping for his pizza.

Just Like Granny

Prince William has a favorite dessert of his own; Queen Elizabeth’s chocolate biscuit cake. He loves it so much that he requested it for his wedding cake when he married Kate Middleton in 2011.

Kate’s Eclectic Taste

When Kate Middleton joined the royal family in 2011, it seems she brought a more eclectic taste to the table. She has a fondness for watermelon salad, ceviche, and sushi, per Hello!, and shares her husband’s love for a spicy curry. In fact, she reportedly likes her curry a bit spicier than Prince William’s. Not that it’s a competition.

Keeping It Healthy Between Meals

While she’s not opposed to a treat here and there, Middleton reportedly snacks on healthy fruits like goji berries and mango if she’s peckish between meals, Hello! reported.

Harry’s Favorite Takeout

Prince Harry has reportedly embraced one fast food chain since moving to California; In’N’Out Burger. Entertainment Weekly reported that he and Meghan Markle have been spotted going through the drive thru for burgers and shakes several times, meaning he really has found his freedom on a deep level.

A Banana Lover From Way Back

Ever since he was a little boy, Prince Harry has had a penchant for all things banana. And lucky for him, he married Meghan Markle, who reportedly has an outstanding recipe for banana bread that includes ginger and chocolate chips.

A Breakfast Foodie Joins The Party

Meghan Markle is arguably the real foodie of the royal family, even penning a bestselling charity cookbook during her brief time in London. She’s a big fan of keeping things healthy but flavorful, particularly when it comes to her breakfast. Markle orders avocado toast topped with a poached eggs when traveling, loves oatmeal and acai bowls full of fresh berries. It’s a good thing she’s starting the day off healthy since she doesn’t really drink coffee.

Romantic Roast Chicken

I don’t know exactly what Meghan Markle puts in her roast chicken, but that’s what she was cooking the night Prince Harry proposed in 2017. I’m guessing it was pretty spectacular.

The Royal Pasta Eater

Prince George loves pasta, according to his parents, and even has a particular favorite. Prince William revealed in December that his oldest son’s favorite meal is spaghetti carbonara, a dish made with real egg, hard cheese, black pepper, and cured pork. Fancy!

Charlotte’s Comfort Food Classic

Much like her big brother, Princess Charlotte loves Italian food. But she goes in for a classic kid’s favorite that’s more comfort food than fine dining, even getting messy in the kitchen to make it herself with her mom’s help. She likes a homemade pizza, and no one can blame her.

Louis’ Love Of The Garden

Now here’s an interesting choice for a favorite dish. Kate Middleton once said that her youngest son Prince Louis is very partial to beetroot. The vegetable. Impressive. I guess he’s never heard of chocolate.

Archie’s Royal Waffles

Meghan Markle’s 2-year-old son Archie is following in his breakfast-loving mom’s footsteps. Prince Harry said that he loves waffles so much Queen Elizabeth sent him a waffle maker for Christmas. That’s the gift that keeps on giving.

Blue Ivy Set To Inherit $1 Billion From JAY-Z & Beyoncé, Study Says

Rihanna is not the only A-List celebrity on billionaire status. Blue Ivy Carter is also set to be a billionaire in her own right. According to a recent study by Electric Ride on Cars, researchers estimate that the oldest child of JAY-Z and Beyoncé made the list of the world’s richest kids. In fact, Blue is the third richest kid in the world with a future net worth of $1 billion.

The 9-year-old trails just behind Kate Middleton and Prince William’s oldest son, Prince George of Cambridge, at $3 billion and Princess Charlotte, who took the #1 spot with a net worth of $5 billion. And, according to the study, Prince Louis ties with Blue Ivy at $1 billion. Their cousin, Archie Mountbatten-Windsor, the oldest child of Prince Harry and Meghan Markle, Duke and Duchess of Sussex, takes the 11th spot with a net worth of $30 million.

Other kids on the top 10 list include Suri Cruise, the daughter of Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes; Vivienne and Knox Jolie Pitt, the twins of Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt; and Kylie Jenner and Travis Scott’s daughter, Stormi Webster.

While it’s impossible to know what exactly their bank accounts look like, Electric Ride on Cars says they reached their findings by sourcing data Celebrity Net Worth, a site that collects data on the wealth and finances of celebrities. The toy company stressed that the figures included in this study “should be treated as estimates only.”

Estimates aside, JAY-Z rapped in his 2017 song “Legacy” his generational plans for his family. “Generational wealth, that's the key,” he raps. “My parents ain't have s***, so that ship started with me.”

In many ways, Blue was destined for greatness and her parents are securing her financial future. Blue already has writing credits under her name, which will undoubtedly secure the checks for years to come. She laid her voice down to Matthew Cherry’s audiobook, Hair Love. She also co-wrote her mother’s award-winning hit “Brown Skin Girl,” which made her the second-youngest Grammy winner of all time. In return, she paid homage to her father by turning her Grammy into a golden sippy cup.

Blue is also the face of her mother’s IVY Park Kids, along with her twin brother and sister, Rumi and Sir. For the September 2021 cover story with Harper’s Bazaar, Beyoncé shared one of the most satisfying moments of being the young (future) billionaire’s mother. And it wasn’t about wealth! “One of my most satisfying moments as a mom is when I found Blue one day soaking in the bath with her eyes closed,” the 39-year-old shared with the magazine, “using blends I created and taking time for herself to decompress and be at peace.”

When Should You Stop Having Sex During Pregnancy? Experts Explain

For some pregnant people, pregnancy makes them pretty "thirsty," and that's a perfectly common symptom. (I don’t mean thirsty in the “drink 10 glasses of water” way either.) For others, sex during pregnancy is the furthest thing from their mind, which is also understandable. If you’re up for getting down though, is there a time it's not safe? Many are interested in sex during pregnancy, but worry there’s some kind of timeline to follow, like a good time to have sex during pregnancy, and a time when you should stop having sex during pregnancy.

When Should You Not Have Sex During Pregnancy?

Luckily, for those who are into it, OB-GYN Lakeisha Richardson says that having intercourse throughout your entire pregnancy is perfectly safe, barring any complications you may have. WebMD noted that your baby is protected by your abdomen and “the uterus’ muscular walls,” as well as the amniotic sac’s fluid. However, if your water has broken, you definitely should not have sex. Per the Mayo Clinic, once your water has broken, if anything is inserted into the vagina after the amniotic sac is broken it can introduce bacteria — which can cause an infection.

Additionally, Richardson says in an email interview with Romper that women should not have sex if they've had premature rupture of membranes, preterm labor, or placenta previa/low-lying placenta — which causes bleeding during pregnancy — or if she’s had a cervical cerclage.

OB-GYN Idries Abdur-Rahman tells Romper that placenta previa is a condition where the placenta covers your cervix. Apparently, it's more common in women who have previously had a baby, have uterine scarring from previous surgery — including C-sections, uterine fibroid removal, and “dilation and curettage” — are carrying more than one fetus, are 35 or older, or had placenta previa in a previous pregnancy.

Additionally, if you’ve been put on pelvic rest, you definitely should not have sex. “The most common reason pregnant women are placed on pelvic rest is bleeding during pregnancy. If women have bleeding in the first trimester, they are placed on pelvic rest until the bleeding resolves and they are out of the first trimester. Also, pregnant women who experience preterm labor, premature rupture of membranes, or bleeding in the second or third trimester are placed on pelvic rest until delivery," Richardson says. Abdur-Rahman adds that you shouldn’t have sex while pregnant if you have pre-eclampsia, or if you’re having triplets (or more) in some cases.

What will happen if you have pregnancy sex when you shouldn’t? Nothing good. “For women who have premature rupture of membranes, having intercourse increases the risk of infection and preterm labor, and if you have a placenta previa or bleeding, having intercourse can cause a hemorrhage or bleeding,” Richardson says. Yikes. So not worth it.

However, solo orgasms, even with vibrators aren’t completely off the table in most cases. Richardson says clitoral masturbation is safe as long as you don’t insert anything inside your vagina, “except for women who have preterm labor, because an orgasm can cause uterine contractions or irritability.” So if you do use a vibrator, be sure to only use it on the outside if your doctor has told you sex during pregnancy isn’t safe.

How Pregnancy Affects Sex

This is a good thing since it seems like most women are on one side of the coin or the other — either they can’t get enough sex, or they want nothing to do with it. For those in the “can’t-get-enough-sex” category, Abdur-Rahman says this happens for a few reasons. “Part of it is psychological. For many women, pregnancy is ironically the first time in their lives that they have been able to have sex without the worry of becoming pregnant. Many women find this freeing,” he says. He also notes that sometimes their changing body can make a pregnant person's libido increase.

“Fluctuating hormones also play a role, including the hormone responsible for male and female libido testosterone. Increases in testosterone often result in increased libido,” Abdur-Rahman says. “Lastly, pregnancy causes an increase in blood flow to the uterus and the genitalia. This results in engorgement of the vagina and clitoris, which increases both awareness of these areas and increased sensitivity.”

However, if the thought of sex makes you want to curl up and hide, this could be because of your comfort levels, according to Richardson. This is totally understandable, as it may be hard to have sex during pregnancy unless you’re in certain positions, and even then, it can be a little exhausting on your already tired body. However, sex improves your mood, and orgasms release oxytocin, the feel-good hormone, which is definitely something everyone needs more of during those last several weeks of pregnancy. Richardson also says that having intercourse on a regular basis in your third trimester will improve your chances of going into spontaneous labor, because of “the cervical ripening effects of prostaglandins in semen.”

If you’re up for it, having sex throughout your pregnancy is perfectly safe, no matter what trimester. The only time you really shouldn’t is if you have bleeding during pregnancy, a low-lying placenta, a cervical cerclage, preterm labor, pre-eclampsia, triplets or more, or a premature break of your water. And the good news is, if you are suffering from any of those things during pregnancy, you’re probably not going to be feeling super frisky in general.

It was there where he met chef Love Quinn, played by Victoria Pedretti, the woman of his dreams who has a dark side to her, just like him. While Joe, who’s a straight up murderer and stalker, contemplates killing Love after discovering her secret at the end of Season 2 — spoiler alert — she reveals that she is pregnant with his child and they move into a quiet suburban home.

But fans of the show, or the book series by Caroline Kepnes that the Netflix show is based off of, know that things aren’t always what they seem. And you’ll have to see for yourself what happens in the new season.

You Season 3 Premieres In October

All episodes of the brand new season of the show premiere on Friday, Oct. 15, Netflix announced on Monday. “Let’s just say, I hope you’ll do as I say, not as I do, but for you, I could change,” he says. “I’ll be a man you’ll look up to, a man you’ll be proud to call your dad.”

You Season 3 Will Focus On Joe’s New Life

At the start of Season 3, Joe and Love are now married and raising their son after moving to a suburb in Northern California, where they are surrounded by “privileged tech entrepreneurs, judgmental mommy bloggers, and Insta-famous biohackers,” according to Entertainment Tonight.

While Joe is committed to his new role as a devoted husband and father, he also fears his wife’s impulsiveness, and can’t resist his old ways when he falls for his neighbor next door. Juicy!

You Season 3 Will Have *Many* New Characters

Of course, Badgley will reprise his role as Joe Goldberg. You can also expect Pedretti to play his partner in crime and mother to his new child, Love Quinn, and Saffron Burrows will return as Love’s mother, Dottie.

There will also be some new faces that pop up in this new season. Here is who you can expect to see play a pivotal role in Joe’s new life as a dad, according to Deadline:

  • Natalie, played by Mary McManus, is Joe’s next door neighbor, who is the new subject of Joe’s adoration. But he has to get through her rich and powerful husband, first.
  • Matthew, played by Scott Speedman, is a successful CEO, husband, and uncommunicative father.

  • Cary, played by Travis VanWinkle, is a wealthy man who accepts Joe into his inner circle.
  • Theo, played by Dylan Arnold, is a college student with a “strained and complicated relationship with his stepfather.”
  • Marienne played by Tati Gabrielle, is “a smart, no-nonsense librarian who doesn’t let much get to her.”
  • Kiki, played by Shannon Chan-Kent is a wife, mother, and life coach who enjoys gossiping about others at the local café.
  • Dante, played by Ben Mehl, is a librarian and veteran, who loves helping his friends with their kids.
  • Andrew, played by Chris O’Shea, is also a local gossip and stay-at-home dad.
  • Brandon, played by Christopher Sean, is a Kiki’s husband and a stay-at-home dad.
  • Jackson, played by Bryan Safi, is Andrew’s wry and humble husband.
  • Gil, played by Mackenzie Astin, is a thoughtful and mild mannered geology professor.
  • Dr. Chandra, played by Ayelet Zurer, is a seasoned couple’s therapist who gets down to the bottom of her patient’s issues.

You can also expect to see the return of Young Joe in flashbacks throughout the season, according to Deadline.

You Season 3 Might Not Have A Happy Ending

But what else would you expect from Joe? You show runner and co-creator, Sera Gamble, told The Hollywood Reporter that this new season will explore Joe living in a suburban world as “a fish out of water.” While Gamble remained mum on the details surrounding the story of Season 3, she did say that “things won’t go well for Joe” which can mean a number of things. So it’s very likely that this new dad won’t have his happy ending.
