20 Black History Shirts For Kids & Adults

Graphic tees are a visual display that allows us to express the beauty of our Black culture, nuances, and vernacular in a way that requires no explanation. If you know you know, right? Black history shirts can speak to the spirit of our perseverance. They honor our traditions, and give a nod our sarcasm and familial ties.

When the t-shirt line came out that read “Nah. — Rosa Parks,” we knew how perfect that one word was for summarizing the decision she made to not give up her seat on the bus. Sis was tired, and Nah is a full sentence. We felt that.

Black creators and designers continue to make t-shirts that represent our big and small moments. But for years, their products have been passed over by larger retailers, leaving them to take the bootstrap method using a small website or Etsy, and a little social media marketing (with elbow grease) to get the word out. Now, companies like Target have actively not only added Black and other minority creators to their line, they are pushing these products to the forefront and giving them much deserved credit and attention. And not just for Black History Month.

We’ve decided to roundup a few of the dopest Black history t-shirts here, and there’s something for the whole family. Unfortunately, it’s a tedious task trying to weed through the businesses and Etsy shops that are not Black-owned, but have taken our sayings and images, and applied them to their products to make a buck. But all of these products are carefully chosen from Black creators who have made it their business to represent for our community.

We only include products that have been independently selected by Romper's editorial team. However, we may receive a portion of sales if you purchase a product through a link in this article

T-Shirts Featuring Black Images

You can see the joy when our Black children find a t-shirt or product with a person on it who looks like them. In the myriad of clothes featuring white children or cartoon characters, these Black creators are putting designs in the world that provide representation. These images are artistic, colorful, and full of light.

T-Shirts With Our Slang That Has Many Meanings

The words of our ancestors still echo today. The strength they had in the face of racism and hate continues to push us to require justice and demand equality. These t-shirts are a small way we can carry their messages and experiences.

T-Shirts With Empowering Words

Words are powerful, and these t-shirts model some of the affirmations that we use to appreciate who we are and all the goodness in our make up. It may be a day where you aren’t feeling your strongest, or need a quick boost of confidence. Grabbing one of these from your closet will give you the oomph you need for the day while reminding you just how wonderful you are.

T-shirts With Historical Black Images

There are so many epic moments and people in our history — entrepreneurs, activists, actors, and artists. Pictures of some of those moments are captured in these t-shirts, and pairing them with your favorite jeans and head wrap is a dope combo!

6 Facts About Scorpio Babies

Sometimes people make false assumptions about a sign simply because of its name. And that definitely holds true for Scorpio, the misunderstood sign of the cosmos if ever there were one. Maybe it’s because its symbol is a scorpion that people believe that this zodiac sign will be challenging, but that’s the farthest thing from the truth. As it turns out, Scorpio is a sweet, passionate sign that has big feelings, as you’ll find out from these facts about Scorpio babies.

While you might think that Scorpio (born between October 23-November 21) is a fire sign, it’s quite the opposite: water. It’s ruled by Mars, the planet of survival, physical activity, separation and war, according to Dana DeFranco, an astrologer. “Because of this, Scorpio children have an inherent understanding that life isn’t always easy, strategy is important, and suffering is an inherent part of life,” she says. Wow. But when you look at the flip side of those traits, you’ll find that Scorpios are fearless, resourceful, and are kind of like the superheroes of the cosmos in that they fight for what’s right based on their deep understanding of the Universe.

If you’re looking for more facts about Scorpios, read on. You’ll be happily surprised to find that the Scorpion is much sweeter than you’d think.

Scorpio Is A Deep Thinker

Everything about Scorpio symbolizes depth, from their thoughts to their feelings. It’s because of their innate intensity that it’s important to know how to handle them. “Scorpio children emotions intensely and are more likely than any other sign to process their emotions in private,” says DeFranco. “It is crucial for Scorpio children to be allowed to feel their emotions.” One way to achieve this is by teaching your child that all emotions are okay, so that your little Scorpion doesn’t curl up and retreat into themselves. (You can tell something is wrong when your Scorpio child doesn’t eat.) You can avoid them bottling up their emotions by leading by example and showing them how parents, too, process their emotions in appropriate ways.

Scorpio Can Get A Bad Rap

Well, when your zodiac symbol is a scorpion, it makes sense that people might make inaccurate perceptions about you. And so it is with sweet little Scorpio, whose stinger isn’t as strong as some might think. “Scorpio children can seem brooding, quiet and/or pensive,” says DeFranco. “They are sweet and extremely caring by nature, and it is super important for their parents to cultivate an environment where their little Scorpions feel comfortable exposing the softer sides of their nature.” Unlike what they might have been told, Scorpio children need to know that caring is absolutely okay, and that their intense ability to care is among one of their greatest assets.

Scorpio Children Might Feel Distrustful Of Others

You might not think that kids could have problems trusting people, but this can be the case for a Scorpio child. “Scorpio is the sign most likely to deal with trust issues,” explains DeFranco. “This means parents of Scorpio children need to learn to walk the tightrope between encouraging their child to share their feelings and respecting their child’s privacy.” To handle this, you can teach your child some self-soothing techniques to help them cope and process their emotions.

Scorpio Children Love To Snuggle

Sure, every kid wants to be covered in kisses, but none so much as a sweet little Scorpio. Since they experience emotions in such a big way, it stands to reason that they also want all that love and affection returned to them, too. “Physical affection is important for Scorpio children,” says DeFranco. “Since they are the sign most likely to experience intense emotions and the sign most likely to bottle up these emotions, physical affection is a positive way to make them feel safe and loved while respecting their right to privacy.” So whether they get a good grade in school or eat most of their veggies, slather on the sloppy kisses so your scorpion feels self-assured and loved.

Scorpio Is A Curious Sign

Blame it on their stinger, but Scorpio likes to dig deep to find out the real meaning behind, well, everything. From conversations on the meaning of life to how birds fly, to why you made lasagna for dinner, a Scorpio child will never take anything for granted. “These investigators have an incredible ability to pierce the surface and see beyond face value,” Georgia Marcantoni, an evolutionary astrologer tells Romper. “They love a good mystery so allow them to explore their intense curiosity of the hidden and magical.”

Scorpio Is Always Aware Of What’s Going On

While all the other babies in the hospital nursey might be snoozing or screaming, it’s likely that the Scorpio baby will be wide awake, giving everything a good once-over. “Scorpio babies may have an intense stare,” Stephanie Gailing, an astrologer and author of The Astrological Self-Care Journal. “It’s like they come into life already sussing out their environment.” It’s nothing to be concerned about, but just know that your little Scorpio will always be sizing up the situation — and giving you their opinion.

With their inner strength, passion, and desire to dig deep into the meaning of life, it’s hard not to fall in love with the sweet little Scorpio. They’re truly the meaning of not judging a book by its (astrological) cover — or stinger.

Princess Charlotte & Lilibet “Lili” Diana Have A Lot In Common

Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have not yet introduced their 7-month-old daughter Lilibet “Lili” Diana to the royal family. Not in person, at any rate. Which means the little girl, along with 2-year-old big brother Archie, have yet to meet their Cambridge cousins. Which is a shame, because 8-year-old Prince George, 6-year-old Princess Charlotte, and 3-year-old Prince Louis have loads in common with their Sussex cousins. Arguably, Lilibet and Princess Charlotte especially, so let’s dive in.

#1. They’re The Only Girls In The Family

For one thing, both Princess Charlotte and Lilibet are the only daughters in their family. While Princess Charlotte is a middle child, Lilibet is the youngest in her family. So far, at least. Harry and Meghan could certainly welcome more children, although the Duke of Sussex did tell British Vogue in 2019 that they planned to have “two maximum” in an effort to reduce their environmental impact, which could mean that Lilibet will forever be a little sister and not a big sister.

#2. Their Names Honor “Granny Diana”

Both Prince William and Prince Harry wanted to ensure that they paid tribute to their late mother Princess Diana when they named their daughters, which is especially poignant since she died in 1997, long before either of her granddaughters were born. Princess Charlotte has Diana as one of her middle names while Lilibet’s middle name is also Diana. “[Lilibet’s] middle name, Diana, was chosen to honor her beloved late grandmother, The Princess of Wales,” the Duke and Duchess of Sussex said in a statement announcing her birth.

#3. The Queen’s Little Tributes

While the world is well aware that Lilibet’s name comes from a long held nickname for Queen Elizabeth, first given to her by her own father King George VI, she’s not the only great-granddaughter to pay tribute to her great-grandmother. Princess Charlotte’s full name is Charlotte Elizabeth Diana, after both her grandmother and great-grandmother.

#4. They’re Both Warm Weather Babies

If Princess Charlotte and Lilibet ever decide they want to team up and celebrate their birthdays together, they’re in luck. Lilibet was born on June 4, 2021 while Princess Charlotte was born on May 2, 2015, meaning they are both warm weather babies whose birthdays land just one month apart. They could split the difference and celebrate mid-May and probably get some glorious weather.

#5. Their Place In The Line Of Succession Made History

Both Princess Charlotte and Lilibet have a position in the royal line of succession; in fact, they’ve made history as the first females in their generation who will not lose their place (fourth for Princess Charlotte and eighth for Lilibet) when a younger male is born in their family. Progressive young ladies indeed.

#6. They Serve As Their Mom’s Jewelry Inspo

Both Meghan Markle and Kate Middleton have both worn gorgeous jewelry to honor their daughters in the past. In September 2020, Middleton wore a delicate necklace with her kids’ initials, including a “C” for Charlotte, of course. In August 2021, just two months after giving birth to Lilibet, Markle wore a necklace featuring her daughter’s constellation, a Gemini, along with the constellation for Taurus to honor son Archie.

#7. Their Parents Are Protective

Prince Harry has made it clear that the safety of his children is the most important thing to him. The Sussexes’ legal team recently announced that Prince Harry would like to return “home” to the United Kingdom with his family, per The Sun, but worried that it wouldn’t be safe for his children since he and Meghan had stepped away from their senior royal roles in 2020 without proper security. He’s going to make sure Lilibet is safe at all costs, just as Princess Charlotte’s father Prince William is protective of her. He and Middleton have made it clear that their children are to be protected from the paparazzi, allowing a select few photographers to be on hand when they attend major events like their first day of school.

#8. They Share The Same Last Name

Lilibet’s parents are known as the Duke and Duchess of Sussex, while Princess Charlotte’s parents are the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, but they actually share the same last name. All five of Prince Charles’s grandchildren share the last name Mountbatten-Windsor, as are all of the descendants of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip. Queen Elizabeth’s grandfather, King George V, was the first royal to actually have a last name when he adopted the name of Windsor, based on the House of Windsor, in 1917. The queen and her husband decided they also wanted their own last name to be carried down through male heirs and unmarried female descendants; hence, Lilibet and Charlotte Mountbatten-Windsor.

#9. Outdoorsy Upbringing

The Cambridge family spends as much time as possible at their country home of Anmer Hall in Norfolk County, encouraging their kids to get outside and play in the dirt. A video of the family in honor of their parents’ 10 year anniversary saw them walking on the beach, running through the garden, and enjoying a bonfire. Much like her cousin Princess Charlotte, it seems Lilibet can probably expect much of the same at her family home in Montecito, California. Her brother Archie is busy raising his chickens at his “Chick Inn,” after all, and Meghan herself is almost always photographed outdoors; she even wrote The Bench about her favorite bench in her garden.

#10. They’re Close In Age With Their Big Brothers

Princess Charlotte and Lilibet share a similar age gap with big brothers Prince George and Archie. Prince George was born in July 2013, while Archie was born in May 2019. So basically two years between them, give or take a few months. If and when they meet someday, perhaps they can commiserate on what it means to have a brother so close in age. Certainly from Archie’s perspective, it was an adjustment for him, according to the Duchess of Sussex.

As they get older, Lilibet and Princess Charlotte will hopefully have the chance to get closer. Because there’s nothing like a cousin who really gets it.

The Best KN95 Masks For Kids

It’s been a long two years for parents, thanks to school closures, social distancing, sanitizing, mask-wearing, vaccines, and more nasal swabs than anyone ever dreamed possible, the pandemic is still with us all.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) still recommends that everyone aged 2 and older should wear a mask indoors if unvaccinated. Many experts now recommend wearing respirator masks like KN95, KN94, and N95, with multi-layered filtration systems, as opposed to a simple cloth face mask. “They are very comfortable, and they give excellent protection to yourself and to others. So it's a win, win, win,” aerosol scientist Aaron Collins recently told Romper.

We’ve combed reviews to find which N95 and KN95s have the best fit and the least complaints from kids. And you’ll want to stock up, since you can’t reuse these masks for more than a few days.

If you or your family need masks, you can also sign up to receive four free masks per address, which will be mailed out at the end of January.

We only include products that have been independently selected by Romper's editorial team. However, we may receive a portion of sales if you purchase a product through a link in this article.

Out of more than 1,000 reviews on Amazon, these masks have a 4.5-star rating. Reviewers do note that these masks run small, so they aren’t always a comfortable fit for kids 10 and up.

Priyanka Chopra & Nick Jonas Welcome First Child Via Surrogate

The Jonas family just keeps getting bigger and bigger. On Friday, Nick Jonas and Priyanka Chopra announced that they had welcomed their first baby together in a sweet post on Instagram.

“We are overjoyed to confirm that we have welcomed a baby via surrogate,” Chopra wrote on Instagram. “We respectfully ask for privacy during this special time as we focus on our family. Thank you so much.”

The couple did not share the name of their little one or the sex of their baby. They also did not share the news that they were expecting a baby, although just one week before their special arrival Chopra did tell admit that she and her husband wanted children. “They’re a big part of our desire for the future,” the Quantico actress told Vanity Fair cover story published Thursday. “By God’s grace, when it happens, it happens.”

Little did we know then that it would happen within a week or so. Talk about playing your cards close to the chest.

Chopra alluded to the couple’s interest in becoming parents years ago as well, telling Tatler in 2020, “It is something that I definitely want to do and I’m hoping that whenever God wills it, at the right, opportune time, it’ll happen.”

The time is now, and it sounds as though it’s perfect timing for the couple. Jonas himself admitted to Extra in 2021 that he and Chopra, who got married in 2018, would be “blessed with any child, son or daughter or anything. Just knocking on wood that it happens.”

Perhaps being an uncle to Kevin Jonas’ two daughters with wife Danielle, 8-year-old Alena and 5-year-old Valentina, as well as 1-year-old niece Willa from brother Joe and his wife Sophie Turner, had Nick wanting to get the whole process started. He opened up to Entertainment Tonight in Nov. 2020 about meeting his newest little niece, saying “I have [met her],” he told the news outlet. “It's, you know, Joe and Sophie's thing to speak about or not, but she's the best.”

Now he and Chopra have started their own little family within the family. And this baby will have plenty of aunts and uncles of their own, waiting in the wings to spoil them.

2022 Baby Name Trends: Royals & Nature Continue To Influence

If you’re expecting a new bundle of joy to arrive Earth-side in 2022, you’re probably already dreaming of the perfect name to choose. It’s a tough decision for parents and can get even more challenging with each subsequent baby. (Honestly, naming my youngest was so hard.) So what do you do when you need some inspiration? Take to the internet, of course. There’s a whole world of information about current baby name trends to explore right at your fingertips. You can learn which baby names are trending in 2022, which ones are out of style, and what each name means with just a few clicks. What a time to be alive.

Why Do Baby Names Trend?

“We attach certain meanings, attributes, and qualities of personalities to names. We might have expectations for how the person will behave, what they will do for work, what their values are, etc. And assumptions are made — right or wrong — about names,” Deborah J. Cohan, Associate Professor of Sociology at the University of South Carolina - Beaufort and the author of Welcome to Wherever We Are: A Memoir of Family, Caregiving, and Redemption, tells Romper.

From pop culture to current events, the reason that certain baby names trend over others is complex. “We are influenced by so much, by a variety of social institutions that socialize us to become who we are including our families, media, religion, etc. People might be moved by a song, a movie, a television show, or a place and want to select a name that calls up those good memories and associations every time.”

Though popular names tend to trend, the pull to choose a unique or meaningful name can be strong. “Naming is a form of self-expression for parents to be, and it's a way of declaring a special identity for the child and for the parents,” explains Cohan. This means that names can have a variety of roots for reasons that are important to parents, like drawing meaning from a special place, picking a vintage name that has cycled back around into the baby name pool, or wanting an androgynous name that works regardless of gender.

2022 Baby Name Trends

“It's really hard to predict what naming trends will have the most staying power,” says Cohan. “I tend to think that babies born in a pandemic and soon after are likely to be given names that counter the despair and radiate optimism, playfulness, and joy, as well as strength, resilience, and even a bit of a king of the hill quality.”

When it comes to predicting the most popular baby names of 2022, data recently compiled by the team at the baby and pregnancy site The Bump revealed six major trends for the year ahead. They expect to see a continued rise in unisex names, nature-inspired names, interstellar names, names to inspire confidence, vintage names, and uplifting names in 2022.

“If there is anything the past two years of pandemic life have shown us, it is that people are craving an escape from the tumult and stress — and to do that, many are finding a sense of serenity in the open air. For this reason, The Bump anticipates that the biggest baby name trend of 2022 will be names inspired by the outdoors,” Nehal Aggarwal, Associate Editor of The Bump, tells Romper. “We see this mega trend playing out in the surge in popularity of nature- and celestial-themed baby names — themes that are also popping up in nursery design and baby items."

Recent Changes To Baby Name Trends

When you compare the most recent data on popular baby names from the Social Security Administration (SSA) to data compiled by baby naming websites like The Bump and Baby Center, there are notable differences. The SSA’s most recent list includes names registered to babies born in 2020, whereas baby naming sites populate their lists based on search history from users and self-reports.

Based on a comparison from the top 10 baby names for boys and girls from the SSA in 2020 and the current 2022 list from Baby Center, you can see several notable changes to naming trends:

  • Emma is back on top. This name just won’t quit. Ranked second in 2020 by the SSA, it’s currently number one on Baby Center. (Though, surprisingly, it wasn’t a top-searched baby name on Google in 2021)
  • Mateo is currently ranked fifth by Baby Center, but was the 20th most-popular boy name in 2020, according to the SSA.
  • Liam and Noah continue to battle for the top boy name in 2022. Just as they did in 2021, the names have swapped spots on both lists again this year.
  • Luna is more popular now. Currently, trending as the fifth most-popular girl name on Baby Center, the name was ranked 14th by the SSA in 2020.

Right now, it seems that names for baby boys are in for a bigger shake-up in 2022 than girl names. Comparing the real-time Baby Center list to the SSA’s 2020 naming data, Mateo, Levi, Greyson, and Daniel have usurped boy names William, Benjamin, Henry, and Alexander, removing them from the top 10. For girls, only the number 10 spot from the SSA’s list, Harper, wasn’t included in Baby Center’s top 10.

It will be interesting to see how the final lists compare when the SSA’s data for babies named in 2021 and 2022 is released.

Baby Name Predictions For 2022

Inspired by current trends, here are a few baby names to keep an eye on in 2022:

Zion

The Bump reported that this is the top trending baby name for 2022, according to searches on their site. Though ranked 82nd most-popular on Baby Center for 2022, and 144th by the SSA for boys, the Hebrew name is definitely rising in popularity.

Lily

Between an increase in popularity for nature-inspired names and the birth of royal baby Lilibet (Lili for short) in 2021, look for this floral name to potentially gain even more traction in the coming year.

Kai

In 2021, this Hawaiian-inspired baby name was the third most-searched baby boy name on Google. For 2022, it’s the second most-searched name on The Bump and 16th on Baby Center.

Aurora

The ninth most-popular name on The Bump currently, this interstellar name is rooted in Greek mythology and means “dawn,” but it’s also the name of the princess in Sleeping Beauty. It has a similar vibe to the ever-popular Arya, and with space and nature names trending upward, we could see more Auroras soon.

Charlotte

With vintage and uplifting names trending, the Sex and the City reboot on HBO Max, and of course, the name’s royal connection, it makes sense that the baby name Charlotte could be more popular than ever in 2022. It was the fourth-most popular baby girl name in 2020, according to the SSA, and has been firmly in the top 10 since 2014. (Plus, Charlie is such an adorable, gender-neutral nickname.)

Luca

Though the similar-sounding name Lucas has been popular for quite some time (top 10 for the SSA since 2018), the baby name Luca is trending 13th for boys on Baby Center on and 4th as a unisex baby name on The Bump. The Italian name was the top-searched boy name on Google in 2021 and the titular character of a 2021 Disney/Pixar film, so don’t expect it to go away anytime soon.
