Legacy Of An Icon: Once In A Blue Moon Party Returns

A classic never truly fades; it simply finds new places where those who remember it gather. Such is the legacy of the icon that is the original Hotel Equatorial’s Blue Moon — a nightspot that sealed its place in the history of Kuala Lumpur nightlife through its high-energy live DJs and the momentous, crowd-pleasing sets they played throughout the 80s and 90s.

On 31 May 2026, EQ, Kuala Lumpur revives the spirit of the iconic nightlife institution for one evening only in collaboration with Club Roots on LITE Drive. Set across the elevated surrounds of Sky51, the experience celebrates the defining sounds and social energy of the 70s, 80s and 90s through an evening shaped by music, nostalgia and timeless nightlife culture.

Joining the lineup are LITE FM favourites DJs Sheela, OJ, Robert Mah and Adrian G alongside DJ Phat Fabes, each bringing a distinct style shaped by years behind the decks and a personal connection to the original Blue Moon era. Their sets move seamlessly across generations of music, balancing familiarity with the exhilaration of a timeless night out.

The evening unfolds as an immersive musical journey through three decades. From 7PM, guests are welcomed into Blue, EQ’s stylish homage to the original venue, where DJs Sheela and OJ set the tone with soulful 70s classics. As the atmosphere builds, the celebration moves outdoors beneath the city skyline, where Robert Mah and Adrian G take over with crowd-favourite 80s anthems. DJ Phat Fabes then leads the night into its final crescendo before all DJs reunite at the VIP deck after midnight for an exuberant finale dedicated to the 90s.

Complementing the soundtrack is a cocktail programme inspired by the same era-led journey. Iconic classics including the Blue Lagoon, Tequila Sunrise, Cosmopolitan and Flaming Lamborghini return alongside celebratory shooters and cocktail jugs designed for shared experiences throughout the evening.

The culinary offering follows a similarly approachable direction, with live stations serving sliders, sausage buns and nasi lemak bungkus, while Blue’s regular menu remains available for guests moving effortlessly between dinner, drinks and the dance floor.

Adding to the spirit of the evening are two signature interactive moments. “Make It Friends” invites guests to purchase a RM1,000 round for the house, marked by the ceremonial striking of a gong that brings the room together in celebration. The Dance Floor Challenge, meanwhile, rewards the evening’s most captivating dancer with a bottle of whisky selected by the DJs themselves.

Entry is available via a minimum spend of RM150+ per person, inclusive of a reserved table within the venue. For guests seeking a more elevated vantage point above the city, private Sky Pods are available with a minimum spend of RM2,000+ per pod. The event begins at 7PM and continues late into the evening.

Exclusive Blue Moon Stay Experience

To complement the occasion, EQ is also introducing an exclusive Blue Moon stay experience for guests reserving a seat or table at the party.

Available from 29 May to 2 June 2026, the package offers well-appointed accommodation from RM630+, inclusive of buffet breakfast for two as well as daily in-room snacks and soft drinks, creating the perfect opportunity to extend the celebration into a stylish city escape. All prices are in Ringgit Malaysia and subject to prevailing taxes.

Blue Moon x Club Roots reflects a growing interest in revisiting familiar moments with a renewed perspective. Set within Sky51, the experience brings together music, atmosphere and shared memory, offering a return to a defining chapter of Kuala Lumpur’s nightlife.
