The Malaysian entertainment industry has lost another brilliant star. Veteran Malay actor and singer Jalil Hamid, best known for his work in the movies “Baginda” and “Zombi Kampung Pisang”, has passed away. He was 69.
Jalil Hamid’s daughter, Afiqah, shared the devastating news through Instagram. The actor passed away on 4th May 2026 (Monday), breathing his last at 12.30pm at his residence. He was laid to rest at the Section 21 Shah Alam Muslim Cemetery yesterday evening, with family and close friends attending the funeral.
The cause of death remains undisclosed. However, the actor, whose full name is Abdul Jalil Abdul Hamid, did have a history of health issues. He was diagnosed with an enlarged heart after undergoing surgery around July 2022. He later experienced drastic weight loss and loss of appetite. However, there was a gradual improvement in his condition in recent years.
Speaking to local media, Afiqah noted that her father had intentions to go on his Hajj pilgrimage later this year, but was unable to because of his heart condition. She also mentioned that he showed no signs of health issues up until his death, saying he was to attend a shooting on the night of his death.
Jalil Hamid’s death has sparked tributes from public figures and fellow celebrities. Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim took to social media to express his condolences, writing, “Allahyarham’s passing is a significant loss to the country’s creative industry. His contribution and legacy will be remembered.” Persatuan SENIMAN Malaysia also shared a touching eulogy for the late star.
We extend our condolences to Jalil Hamid’s family and loved ones. May they find solace during this difficult time, and may he rest in peace.
