The music scene mourns the loss of another icon. American singer Peabo Bryson, best known for his “Beauty And The Beast” duet with Céline Dion, has passed away. He was 75.
According to news outlets, Peabo, whose real name is Robert Peapo Bryson, passed away on 2nd June 2026 (Tuesday), surrounded by family. While his family hasn’t revealed the cause of death, the Grammy Award-winning singer-songwriter reportedly suffered a stroke a few days before his death and was under medical care. He is survived by his wife, Tanya Boniface, and his two children.
Peabo’s family shared a statement regarding his death, writing, “We are tremendously moved by the outpouring of love, prayers and support from fans, friends, and colleagues around the world.” The statement continues, “While our hearts are broken, we find comfort in knowing how deeply Peabo was loved and how many lives were touched by his voice and his generous spirit. His legacy and music will live on for generations to come.”
Throughout his 50-year career, Peabo has recorded 20 studio albums, including a new album titled “Grace”, set for release this year. He’s best known for his love ballads, including “If Ever You’re In My Arms Again” and “Tonight, I Celebrate My Love” with Roberta Flack. His duets with Céline Dion for “Beauty And The Beast” and with Regina Belle for “A Whole New World” from “Aladdin” went on to define a generation of Disney films.
Fans and fellow singers have been sharing tributes on social media, remembering Peabo for his work and legacy. Céline Dion mourned her former duet partner, writing in a post, “He will remain for me always as a real symbol of the joy that music has brought to my life. His voice and his talent will be missed. My heart is with your family, and may you rest in peace, Peabo.” Other stars who paid tribute include Ruben Studdard and Jody Watley.
