Another celebrity love story is unfortunately coming to an end. Hong Kong actor Shawn Yue (余文乐) and Taiwanese actress Sarah Wang (王棠云) have announced they’re divorcing after eight years of marriage.
The pair shared the announcement through their social media pages. In his statement, Shawn said the decision to separate was mutual, writing, “We (he and Sarah) have reached a consensus, respecting and blessing each other’s choices in life”. He continued, “Thank you for everything you have given as a mother and a wife. We will always be family.”
Meanwhile, Sarah shared a longer statement, noting that the decision to divorce wasn’t easy. However, the couple believe it was the better choice to make for their future. The model also said that Shawn was a good husband and father, and that the pair will always remain a family. She also thanked him for all their years together.
Shawn and Sarah tied the knot in 2017 in a private ceremony in Melbourne. The pair have two children together: son Cody, eight, and daughter Celest, six. Fans have long regarded Shawn and Sarah as a happy couple with a harmonious relationship and family life, which is why many were surprised by the news.
However, some netizens argued that there were signs of marital issues after looking back at the couple’s social media activities in recent months. Before confirming their split, Shawn had gradually stopped sharing images of Sarah and their family on his Instagram, which contrasts with his actions in the couple’s earlier years when they were more open to public displays of affection.
Despite the hints of marital problems, the two didn’t share any specific reason for their divorce. Shawn and Sarah also kept other details about their separation a secret, including custody of their children. However, the pair will likely share custody of Cody and Celest and choose to co-parent.
